On Leaning Onto God

Some belief model involving God. Forbes made an interesting post about casting away negative attitude to think that someone will bail you out. It made sense when it told you that you should go and prepare yourself. Nobody can be guaranteed to be a permanent helper. I have watched how a person sunk to bottom and his family (his own brothers) left him when he asked for financial support. He was the one that supported them when they were younger. But, because he made a failed financial decision, he was left alone. He was a senior manager in a certain multi-national corporate when he left his job. He sought an entrepreneur path and tried to pave his way. Unfortunately, his initial attempts was a failure. He was frowned upon and left without a job. And when he asked his brother to lend him money, he did not have it. Instead, he was getting lectured about bad decisions. He was insulted and labelled as a disgrace for his family. After all that, he was banned from his brot...

Amanda Todd

From time to time, there will always be bullying happens. Some people would argue that that's the normal process of life. Some even relate them to the way of the world: the stronger consuming the weak. Well, sorry to say that I can say that's baseless. The world is made by the society. What shape them is the agreements that become the norms. If we agree to get better, then the world will get better. The world will be a better place. But why seems there are people who oppose to the idea of it? I can only say that many people have different insights of how to live their lives. There are some that take spiritual causes such as God as their guidance and some people gather knowledge as their utmost defense. Among that we believe in, there are also ego, hatred and self-acceptance. Ego, the basic desire of human beings to have a meaningful existence. Hatred, the basic defense to have distrust to protect your existence. The most of it is self-acceptance, which means the way y...

Stop The Terror

#StopTheTerror An Israeli TV producer post an Instagram picture to call all the offended party to stop the violence . The Israeli government bombarded Gaza in a response for series of rocket barrage by Hamas, the ruler of Gaza strip. This paragraph from the linked article explain it well: Isreal began air raids after Gaza's Hamas rulers fired rockets into the country earlier this November. At the time of publication, 840 citizens in Gaza have been injured from the attacks, while another 113 Palestinians have been killed. In Israel, three fatalities were reported and dozens have been wounded. Though over 1,000 rockets have been launched from Gaza, the death rate may remain low in Israel due to Israel's state-of-the-art missile defense system . Yes, both sides have casualties, mentally and physically. Civillians are terrified from both sides. Both Are Wrong, So Stahp! This hate generator between both sides are nothing but interests for some parties involved. Hamas as...

Rohingya

To my friends, In my search about the Rohingya incident, I stumbled across this article . As a counter, I stumbled upon a thread at Forum Kompas (Bahasa Indonesia) about Rohingya incident. The blog itself called about a conspiracy to desecrated the integrity of Burmanese with pictures taken from another unrelated incident . Even Aung San Suu Kyi remain silent and take careful note about it. First of all, this is not about religion in conflict, but a country that has apartheid political system. I can assume you that Rohingya is not the first one. Even in Cambodia there are villages that are not having nationality. In these poor villages, people would sell their 7-8 year old daughters as sex slaves. And even in Indonesia, people from Ahmadiyah are being torn and chased out from their own houses. Churches having difficulties, even the famous GKI Yasmin that won the case but the court's decision is being hold. Yeah, there is this law immunity when against certain ...

LGBT Rights

As a conservative Christian, I really want to know: "what is actually the meaning of LGBT rights?" If it's a way to people to let them do what they want, then I agree. But, if they want to have the church to accept their behavior as normal, then I disagree. If they can have their belief of having devious of what of they were born, then why can't I have the other side of the thinking? So, yeah, I might change my mind in the future -- either becomes more hostile or supportive -- in the meantime this is still my resolution of the matter: As a fellow humans, I must have them as brothers and sisters, but when it comes to faith, they all are heretics that need to be saved.

Moving Forward

There are times where we should let go, yet the feeling still lingers. To move forward is to remove all ties with the thing that we should left behind. But, sometimes people always moving like merry-go-around. What I've found about it is the lingering feeling is mostly because of the regrets. Regrets about not able to say what should be said and done. Regrets of the past actions that shouldn't be done. Regrets about the after-effects that beyond what they expected. Sometimes, people would love to undo things. Making favors for the hurted, self-punishing and seeking enlightenment. Sometimes, some may have bad luck. They couldn't find salvation because the people they hurted already passed away. Or, they are geographically separated. Or, they are no longer in communication with each other. To my surprise, these people transformed theirselves into jerks. Unaware of their behavior, they startled everyone around them. They have lost theirselves and seeking for destructi...

On The Lack of Compassion

Nowadays, provocative things happen in television. I don't watch it that much anymore anyway. But apparently, there were new topics that arise. Some of them are from the mouth of politicians. In this case, Rhoma Irama. He said that it is a great sin to let Chinese Christian leading Jakarta . Well, he already taken into question by the police for his black campaign against Jokowi. That old geezer is having too much time in his hand. I don't like that person. Especially his tears that fall when he hold into custody by the police. Meh! An actor can do such thing easily and his sincerity is questionable. He was on the other candidate ads since the first round voting. I hate it when people using religion to attack others. It made religion feels like a hypocrit's pact. Made the god on that religion seems like an evil doer fooling his people to do bad things for him. Such a weakling that needs the help of his subject. God created people. As the time goes by, his creation ...

A Side Story of Nobody

Many people would do anything to get their wish done by other. Some people would beg for it. Some people take other measures to get it. What I regret the most is when a person take a route of taking people as if they are trash. Not thinking about the other side's circumstances and just bluntly asking the wish. Furthermore, the person would put a general stereotype to label that side. I hate stereotypes! Why I Chose This In my line of work I provide a service. I take my job with pride and did more than anyone else. I even work late beyond working hours. That's because I love what I do and I do what I love. For me, working is my hobby that getting paid. I have my dream and I craft it with my work. So, yeah, my day job is my tool to fulfill my dream. To some people, work is just a line of duty to collect payroll. They don't wish to give their best. They just want to get paid. At first I don't understand them. Why would they spend most of their time living ...

An Evolution of Politics in Indonesia

It has been a while when Indonesia's politics was held hostage by Indonesian political parties. This pseudo democracy had many examples where people voice are being overridden by a group of selfish people. They never listened to people yet they always said they were listening to people. What did the winning parties do? They would installed their people in many government posts. Posts that would generated income for their party and brought many influences were preferable. They sold the country for their own purposes. Have they really listened to people? The house of representatives is a joke to democracy. They never welcomed people to voice their opinions. They barricaded the entrances and let the people in the street far away from their office. Their frontyard are very wide, but it is only for decoration. Anyway, all the glory in winning an election made parties compete each other in distasteful ways. Each of them stabbed each other. That was why, Indonesia never had...

Heroes?

This morning I watched Mama Dedeh. It's an Islamic spiritual show. The topic was about a widow of Indonesian veteran hero who almost got kicked from her house. According to PP 1994, a person who lives more than ten years can have the house. So, she struggle to get her house and brings this matter to court. When she struggled, the other side also put a fight and took her into trial. In her interview she said, "If I will ever found guilty in this trial, I will take my husband's remainings from Taman Makam Pahlawan [a burial place for Indonesian heroes] and put them on public burial." I don't know the other side's story. But, when I heard about it, I suddenly wanted to cry. At that time I remember Dennis Ritchie and how the world doesn't even know him. Weird. We remember Steve Jobs and his way to introduce Apple product. We don't remember the one that introduce modern programming and almost all applications created with it. The world remembers t...

My Worldview

There is nothing more irritating than a time when you were doubted at something that you good at. And the most irritating from it is when people dictate you what to do about life. As if they were pro at it. I never once forced people to accept my way of life. Not all people have encounter life and death experience. And people who did, not all of them learn from it. I don't want to be judgemental, but I've seen people who just being evil even after what happened. And how am I going to explain to a "normal" person about there are things bigger than life? How am I going to convince people about their lives are worth in each breath they take? How am I going to show them that working is not life? I know we born naked and die naked. All of what we have is nothing but just portrait in memory. So, I decided to always take my picture with a smile. Some people said that life is a struggle. I enjoy every challenge in my life. I chose my job. I don't even consider ...

Professionalism

A photographer found a child lying on an African soil almost dying. A vulture near the child was watching for her. The photographer took a shot and let his professionalism as a journalist took a part. As a journalist, there should be no intervention. He won the Pulitzer but he lost his humanity. He then died because of his own conscious. There is no way being humanitarian become a blockade for professionalism. It should be the only exception when we should intervere. Keeping a work is keeping integrity, but a compassion is something that keeping conciousness. We have at least two daily profession, one as a worker employed by workplace and one as a human employed by conciousness. Being compassion is also part of being professional.

Happy Feasting

Happy feasting for my Moslem brother and sister.

Women Have It All

The Colbert Report Get More: Colbert Report Full Episodes , Political Humor & Satire Blog , Video Archive There is a good reason why women can't have it all. Anne-Marie Slaughter (a professor from Princeton U.) said that most women who love her family would done 2/3 of the household and 2/3 of caring children. So, in order to have both career and family, she must be: 1) sleepless; 2) extremely rich; and 3) self-employee. I too thought the the same thing, but in Indonesia might have the extreme thing. One of the parents must forget his/her dream and choose to responsible for the family. Your career would demand you a lot of time, so does the family. In here, most of the women would be the one that yield. Thinking from the biological practice, women has to have carry the baby around for nine months. A year or two her milk needed by the baby. Some take workarounds like breast-feading it from a bottle or using formula milk. I don't agree on both methods for normal circumstance...

People's Power

Bung Hatta (Mohammad Hatta) once protested Indonesian democracy. He was upset because people blaming democracy for the Konstituante wasn't able to produce anything. It led Bung Karno (Soekarno) to change democracy system. It wasn't because of the democracy, he said, but because leaders of political party haven't understood their positions. They abused the power for their own benefit. The cause of them to exist was forgotten. Fast forward 2012, the condition still hold true. Some people blame this because we, Indonesia, was under long period of time colonization (350 years by the Dutch, 3.5 years by Japan). Little they know, the Indonesians still holds authority at that time. It was the corruption of Indonesia's aristrocrats made us suffered. Well, there is always a time where something will saturate. I think now people already aware that we have a chance to change. That's what we call getting matured. I hope freshmens in government could infuse their naivity. They c...

Jakarta #1

At Wednesday we were holding an election for DKI Jakarta governor. Through quick count many surveyor was astonished by how they have been wrong. All of them predicted Foke as the winner. Jokowi wins the first round. Funny thing, some of them blame voter that chose not to vote. They said that the people who vote for Foke took vacation at the day -- lame. Some says it because of Megawati and Prabowo influence. I don't know how they surveyed the majority, but Jokowi to be a winner is nothing to be surprised of. Let me tell you the reason: To many Indonesian, especially people who read quality news, Jokowi already proven as one of the 10 best regional leader by Tempo 2008. Ahok was known as the man who lived by his word. He always put his accounting online on his site to show people. On top of that, he was the Bupati (leader) of Bangka Belitung. Many member of Slank vote for Jokowi. The words of Bimbim, the drummer, "I usually don't vote for anyone, but on th...

Reboot

I was furious when someone took a better picture than me. It was a photo shoot and the original photographer was going somewhere and left the gear. Some of us was playing with his gear. We were trying to take a picture of us jumping. I took the initiative to be the photographer. The person in question was telling me what to do with the camera. Geez, the person was a Nikon holder and the camera was Canon 550D. I was kinda irritated when a Nikon holder told me about how to use a Canon. I have played with Canon camera a long time. My picture was kind of post-jump. But, when the person redo the process, the person took a better moment. I took my defeat by sit down and rethink, furiously. I was furious because if I was given a second chance to take the picture, I could produced better picture. I mean, something that made my rage not coming out was this: if we compare the two pictures, my picture had the object locked in the middle while the person's object was too high...

Immature Me Being Grow Up

I have watched two of the Elder's React from React Series by Fine Bros. The first episode was about Nyan Cat and the second one is about Dubstep. I love how they react to those things. They teach me how immature I am and try to learn to their wisdom. Being an older person is not a tool to justify your act of bullying someone's preference that different from you. Being older means you have seen adversities of the world. You've seen different things from different point of view. Being older means you have already master the skill to accept differences and encourage them to be true to themselves. Being older means you have the wisdom to think in someone's shoe first. I need to learn these things and learn to respect people more.

Ugly

What is perfect? Every one of us has a taste of one's own accord. Some people said that lady on the magazine is pretty. OTOH, some don't. Some even don't have a heart to have so. So, isn't it a definition of perfect is when someone that we care most accepts us? How can you'd be accepted if you don't even have a confidence on yourself?

A Harsh Reality

Why would I be in the realm where people calling me name? I am not a fatso, anonymous victim nor whatever they've decided to befall upon me. I am not that ugly meat that nobody cares. No, that empty shell holding a mouse and a keyboard is a nightmare I constantly have because of my badassness. I am Master Chief and I'm here to save the day. Argh, why I must constantly dreaming of being that thing. Wake up, damnit! We got a planet to save.

Stop Complaining

Mr Rogers was concerned by the lack of good educational TV program for children. He was supposed to be a minister. But, he decided to focus to build his own TV program. Well, this poster reminds me of why I am become an active FOSS advocate. I feel like not want to explain it again and again. But, I do glad that I did choose to do it. Have I done my part well? I hope I have. But, I don't dare to conclude it myself. I knew back then that my expertise is one of the chronic of weak law enforcement. It created digital gap. It even put people away from many knowledge. That was why, I chose to be part of the problem solver. I knew the resistance is high. To do something against the norm and kicking people out from their comfort zone. The risk was high and the pay seemed not really worth it. Well, I wasn't alone. God protected my blind sides. I know faith is something that irrational. But, to think that something is irrational because it is still unproven itself is irrat...

When Entertainment Enters Your Living Room

We see children every day thrown out into the streets. We see every day injustice happen and we keep our silence. We are killing this tiny little part of ours that was called compassion. It isn't needed in this 21st century of rat race. We have too much in our hands. Besides, we all live in a good neighbourhood. All of these violence scenes are nothing but mere entertainments brought by the media. We enjoy it as a dose of daily show. Someday, those children be adults without proper education. Those opressed become villains. Those that being bullied stand on firm ground. And they decided to provide the entertainment live at our living room. Only this time, we participated as victims. Please, do something before it starts.

The Media We Used To Know

Picture taken from 9gag. It's since long time I have stopped reading newspaper. They would interestingly added some spices into the story. There were times when I even criticized it on this blog. Where did the good journalism go?

Some Study That I Used to Know (Gotye Parody)

NN

My sentiment exactly. I remember when my chemicel teacher used to say, You learned in elementary so you could pass into junior high. You learned in junior high so you could got into highschool. And all these three years you'd spent will be determined in SPMB (SNMPTN/national test for entering higher education) to enter university. So, basically, you spent 12 years of your life just for SPMB. That sentence I took it to the heart and spent the rest of my sen...

Stallmanism

I've found St. IGNUcius from the Church of Emacs as a graceful saint who blessed the earth with his idea of sharing. A leftist who feel gross at how some elites use their authorities for own benefit. How people should not restrict other's freedom in software. Like other religion, some people would worship St. IGNUcius so much that they tried to make a religion out of it. They wanted to have a closer relation with the idea he brought. They wish to relate themselves to the teaching and achieved the ideal. In order to do that, they need to translate the teaching into their circumstances. You know, like how to make a sentence that the saint told at the time could be relevant on the days of the worshipers. How it would fit in the socio-world of that time. For example, the scripture of GNU Public License was written in the United State and complied with the country's copyright system. How can I adapt the GPL in Indonesia? I strive as I behave like what the scripture said ...

My Political Statement

I regret deeply that I have chose SBY as President. This country is on the edge of brokenness and he just take silence, none. Well, it seems Partai Demokrat is in my blacklist. How can Supreme Court is superseded by local authority? GKI Yasmin already being granted from the Supreme Court which is a sign of this country's approval -- including our fellow Moslem brothers and sisters. Why a few radicals could dictate the whole country?

Rightfully Whose?

A post in 9gag, " Story of Palestinian " made a thread with debates over and over. From the post's comments (a lot of them just from a thread!), I found out these stereotypes: Israeli thinks they depend themselves because the Arabs starts the war. Besides, the Palestinian bombing them with rockets. Palestinians thinks that they were oppressed because the Israel. Some Europeans who comment support Palestinians. Some Jews and Palestinian want peace each other. [which is actually the real opinion, I think.] You know why this is a stereotype? Because the hate take the argument one sided and almost all have it. I as a spectator from outside then take a note. Some comments from Isreali debunked the European by telling them, "you ain't live here. You know nothing!" Well, I'm Indonesian and feel the question also for me. Why do I care about this conflict far thousands of Kilometers away? Simple, because they proxy the war here! Each day radical pe...
