Hajime x Kobo - Ride on Time

I have a soft spot for 80s pop. I really like them singing this song. I wish in 0:41 they split their voice instead using a unison. They did it all over the song making this song a little bit boring. But, hey, I like to listen to this song so I put my review on this.

「MV」mumei

I didn't realize that I haven't review this song when this song already on my common playlist. Yes. This song deserves as a song, not the vtuber song, the real artist song. It is up there in my playlist among other songs. I can only have three in my mind of vtuber original songs that top can be in that playlist: The OG song by Suisei, Stellar Stellar. This song really made the vtuber music on the chart of being a serious songs, not just that Idol-wannabe songs. Moona's High Tide. A good song with rich production specialty of K-Pop with Japanese sensibility and the dance that changed Hololive direction back to Yagoo's dream. LOL. The piano arpeggio really reminds me of Last Night Tonight by KZ Livetune. It really evokes the dreamlike and longing inside. However, the dynamics in the song in the EDM-type of song really made this 4:15 songs feels like a story not repetitive. TKN really knows his stuff. He compose the song with Mumei's voice as instrument and also play...

Gosling'ed

This 26 seconds long video was titled "Lapwing - Face Tracking Add on" is a demonstration of a VRChat plugin. This plugin was used for face tracking. It was created by a French guy. The guy demonstrated the plugin with a girl character named Lapwing. The problem with this demonstration was the expressions generated were so lovely. She evokes cute girlfriend experience. Making people longing for her. Thus, online people felt lost because the short period of this video. Felt like being left lonely for a nonexistant girlfriend. Like Ryan Gosling character in Bladerunner 2049.

Gawr Gura Graduation

Gawr Gura will graduating from Hololive. People make jokes that 4chan went down because of this graduation. Well, it's a running joke that Gawr Gura usually makes an appearance when something is gonna happen. We joked she streamed on the same time as Niji events. Anyway, the graduation is a foregone conclusion. She rarely streamed. It seems because of her popularity, may be, she is being kept by Cover to stay. It's already five years and it's also a good time for someone moving on from one job to the other. The kayfabe maybe making fans upset and sad. However, looking from job perspective, it's a normal time. I mean 5 year is a long time for working in a company. So, let's get real here. We have the pattern here that the US-based Hololive EN girls are getting graduations. Yagoo said that Cover wants to build an office in the US. This office seems related to business prospect and not the vtuber studio. So, I think it's understandable that the girls having issue...

【MV】HELP!! - Kobo Kanaeru

It has been a year this music published on YouTube. This song is a breakthrough song for Kobo. Here's what I think what's great about this song: Groovy bass line with minimalistic drum sets this song as a vocal-based song. You must be blessed with great vocal to compansate this and Kobo nailed it. The long take of melodies sung by Kobo really sets her apart. Her long breath really shines in this. The legato and the right nuggets here and there. The effect, long space of delayed sound, really makes a room and subtly let listener rests for a while. Natori backing vocal fills the void of bassline in vocal. His laidback vocal arrangements integrates well with Kobo's techniques. I don't know why the obsession of Japanese musician with Mathrock arrangements. It would be great at first, but will make them generic overtime. This kind of straighforward music is what they really need. Natori really brings the new old stuff with Japanese sense. Looking forward for his music also.

MV【Break It Down】/ Vestia Zeta

Her soft voice really mixed in well in the song. It has a fuller production than the typical ID songs. It has a nice composition. The song would go to my repeated playlist.

【Original Song MV】CHRONIC【Anya Melfissa】

I like this song. There I say it before further comments. When I was listening to this song, I thought this would be a Kiara song! The music, the chord progression, and the melody is so Kiara. And then when I looked at the description, it makes sense. The same team who produced Kiara's MIRAGE was handling this song. It's a good song, but this is not what Anya Melfissa song should be. At least that is my deepest thought. This is my personal opinion and I respect the reality. LOL. I have a crush to Anya's voice. I was her voice fan since her Phony cover.  Her nasal voice and the legato comes with it really makes her special. Sure, she would be a genre and not all pop songs for her. However, for that kind of song, she even beat Suisei. I think the best producer for her should be a trance or EDM producer like YUC'e. The local producer probably REDSHiFT and Mardial. It's on her genmate's link. The last Everlasting Knife   雄之助  also has the good sense.  I don't k...

AI VTuber

IMHO, we are at the age where human existence in the virtual world is one of the consciousness. As Jean Baudrillard said, we are now at the age of Hyperreality. I believe vtuber is a part of consciousness of a human behind. Although at this stage, it is part of a role play, a kayfabe by someone. As mentioned by Zimbardo in Lucifer Effect, roleplaying when done repeatedly becomes part of that person. The roleplaying affects the real world. The persona played by the person behind becomes the part of the person itself. That's why the character becomes someone. There is an "id, ego, and superego" that becomes the character's engine. How can AI replace that engine? This part needs to be tackled by AI first. The AI needs to be able to "hallucinate", or generate random factoids, with a consistent manner. Being someone like that, it needs to be fed with the right input. Human beings the super group of sensors is constantly build its knowledge by the input from those...

My Take on Risu's career as a Singer

Risu made a tweet addressing some of the jab at her career choices in Hololive. The jab was made by people from VTuber shitposting forum in Facebook. I guess the voices make her a little bit uncomfortable so she made the statement in the Twitter. The tweet basically said that she wasn't chosen. Also, as we who followed her would know, she is a sandwitch generation. She paid for her family. It shackled her for investing to her career. I don't want to comment on personal matter as the life of her is her own choices and dilemma. I don't know about her circumstances. I would like to comment from the musical side. I want to comment on why she wasn't picked from my personal view. Let's talk about the singing. Risu chose to have duality on her singing. Although this is a gift, this is not usual in the POP world. Because of that, she did not have a singing guide. She need to learn herself for that. That's why I understand why Studi Suara felt confused when she suddenl...

Do U - Takanashi Kiara (Korean version)

I really like this version more than the original. The producer patched the music making it more wholly produced. I also like how it was designed more towards K-Pop. What I don't like about the original was the vocal. Kiara has the voice like Kylie Minogue. But, the original sound made the sound distribution uneven. P-san made voice register in the mid-to-high frequency. With the original song towards that sound, I felt like Kiara's voice like nagging. Thankfully, P-san panning the sound more, spreading the sound left and right, making it a full ambience. Kiara now sound more like a musical instrument. My ears can accept her vocal. I am the proponent of vocal diversity. I love world music. Sonically, I think Kiara has that unique tone and as a producer, it comes with the challenge how to compose good music using that unique vocal. In the Korean version, P-san really brings out the vocal more. I wish they could add more layers. But, this is okay because I really do like Do U. ...

【Cover】Mass Destruction -P3fes Reload- / Mori Calliope × Pavolia Reine

I think this is one of the cover song that bested the OG songs. The two original songs: and  are good songs. But, the cover mixes more hard and the rap is more nuance than the OG songs. Btw, OG is a good song also. Farhan Sarasin as the instrumentalist goes hard to make the song like the legendary Doom Eternal OST, Mick Gordon's "The Only Thing They Fear is You"  which to me elevates the song hard. The song composition feels like the early Nu Metal sound of Korn, Limp Bizkit, and Linkin Park, which makes it sounds familiar. The OG songs plays a little bit softer which to me a little bit off. I don't know, may be I just being used to listen to hard core electric music stuffs. One thing that stands out, Calli and Reine has the better style in rapping than the original. The original feels like a white rapper, sorry for the derogatary words in rap. Well, they all ain't black, but Calli and Reine rap has better sounding than the original. I don't want to bash the...

【Original Song】Multiverse【Moona Hoshinova】

If you asked me about the song that would be almost on par with Suise's "Stellar Stellar", this song is my pick. The style of Multiverse song is the reminiscent of fashion music. It would reminds me of any Apple ads. It reeks of confidence, something that would be casually played at the cat walk. My first hurdle to not put it as "the" song as a song, not a gimmick song sung by a VTuber persona is actually Moona's Japanese pronounciation. It would take me out from the song. I need to replay this song over and over just to get used to her dialects. However, the singing, the music, and the composing are top bangers! The only problem for me is the production need to be cranked up. I feel like the sound is a little bit clustered in the mid. Need a little bit panned.  I don't know if the issue is on the 1080p Premium YouTube video? Or, may be my headphone? Or, may be my 40+ years old ears that have deteriorated? So, I need to take EDM-esque songs in YouTube a...

【MV】Switch - Kanaia Asa JKT48V

From all of the three members of the JKT48V, Kana is the least member I watched. I didn't even know about her stream and stuff. However, this song is really the most impressive song out of the three of them in the term of the vocal. The vocal sound is very humane which goes well with me. I saw Sagi as the vocal director. No wonder it has the best vocal harmony. It gives its own flavor, a different flavor from the original JKT48. I kind of like it. But, the mixing is pale in comparison. I don't see any instrumentalist in the credits. Hmm... seems she was using the same music as AKB48 and JKT48 version. Too bad, IMHO. I have a dream, someday my ATH M50 headphone can be used. It was retired since Disc Tarra and Pondok Pujian shutted down. I have no source of good music and since Covid-19, I can no longer asked my friends who travels to Japan for buying me a CD. Kana with this kind of Acid Trance music really a good mix and the song really-really making me hope for good music. ...

【Cover】Hello You, Hello Me - Pia Meraleo JKT48V

Pia Meraleo of JKT48V released a cover song, "Hello you, hello me". It's a catchy song and I like how Pia sung the song. I have some notes about it. It's a catchy song with good instruments. Kinda like a happy-go-lucky Gospel song. Rather than making melodyne vocals, I wish Pia uses her voice to make the backing vocals. The rap part doesn't makes any sense, should have been rewritten to make sense. Pia has a unique vocal, I wish they not overly compress it. Let its features shine. Lol.

Saikai - LiSa x Uru (Moona x Suisei)

If there is one song that I like to listen over and over, it would be Saikai covered by Moona and Suisei. To me, this is the entry for me to like again Japanese songs and starts to take the vtubing industry as a legit music industry. I have liked the Japanese songs in the past, but grown tired because of their direction. They tend to milk much with royal road progression and the math rock-ish style. Feels like repeated theme over and over.  I will know if it's a Japanese song or not based on the song. That at some point made me tired of listening the same pattern on any Japanese songs. I do have a favorite band that I think different from the rest, Perfume. I collected their CDs by asking my friends who visited Japan. So, I don't think that I am totally off with the Japanese music. Of course, the pandemic stops my supply of CD and I don't have any room for more CDs. Anyway, back to the Hoshi duet... I found it interesting about how both of Suisei and Moona taking the app...

Iofi - Here I Am

Iofi seems like to sing songs out of her league. This time, she's singing "Here I Am". Don't get me wrong, she indeed capable of singing this song, but she can't carry the song herself. She need a good producer who could help with the song production. First of all, instead of using electric piano, I would prefer the producer uses Grand Piano. The sound for single keyboard feels like a cheap PSR keyboard production. Second, yeah, I feel like this is on a MIDI production scale. The harmonization feels like being produced with the PSR keyboard. The adlib and harmonization should have been tinkered by Sagisapon or any human tuner. Dragged by MIDI-fied instrumental, Iofi need to make power voice. Unfortunately, she is on the Idolesque- soft tone. She need to have a power voice like Suisei in Stellar-Stellar.  I don't know why, I feel some of the Japanese producer doing half-hearted effort when doing most of the HoloID songs.  Like Zeta's You're Mine, the ...

【original anime MV】III【hololive/宝鐘マリン&こぼ・かなえる】

GigaP hit hard on this song using Latin dance. The salsa really hits the dance floor. The lyrics are typical of Latin dance pop music. I really like the nuggets/adlibs here and there. So masterfully added. The way Kobo and Marine sing the song is great. Marine does not shy away from spicy sounds. Kobo also tried her best for adding some spiciness within her boundary. I also like Marine's take on the song. Her voice has the quality of Showa singer, but she comes out from her comfort zone and try the high pitch type of voice. She really treats Kobo well here. Kobo also getting jacked up with her voice. She takes the high notes and the swings. My personal like is her laughter voice in 2:05. My only concern for this song is the dominant frequency of this song is on mid high range. It exhausts me from doing repeated play. I hope they can filter that mid to high range a little bit so that it would not be exhausting to listen.

【MV】Shoujotachi Yo - Tana Nona JKT48V

Tana Nona released her new cover of JKT48, "Shoujotachi yo" or "Gadis Remaja" or "Teenage Girl".  First of all, JKT48 version and AKB48 version is not my cups of tea. I don't feel comfortable to listen to idol-style sing. There is something about thin voices singing unison that sitting not well with me. I haven't tried to explore it well. I think it is because I feel like they were doing Karaoke instead of singing because the unison not quite unison and it screw the balance with the music. Or maybe it feels like those voices are wasted potential that should have been arranged into many sections? Back to Tana Nona, I feel her voice really enjoyable. Her technique makes me remember the way late singer Dolores of Cranberries. She carries such good emotion using her voice, something that is rare on idol culture. One critic for me is the way her voice is mixed. I wish the mixer lets her crackling sound. Her breathiness is a bit thin in the song. I k...

Neo Aspect - Iofi and Risu

Neo Respect was originally sung by Roselia  for Bandori game. I like how it uses real instruments. I only watched the original after watching the cover by Risu and Iofi. I'm trying to compare them based on the YouTube videos. I don't know the output in BD nor CD version of Bandori. Here's my thoughts comparing them two: Both Bandori and cover music is on par. Tyas Pratama has his magic for creating music using real instruments.  I think he is a talented session musician based on the other Hololive music that he was part of. The vocal performance is different between the Bandori and the cover. Each of them has their own charm. Both are great. For the vocal volume, I think the cover a little bit higher on the volume. My preference is to lower the vocal a little bit, just a little bit not too much. The Bandori version has better balance between the vocal and the music. For the vocal processing, I like the cover version. May be because this is a studio version, the reverb is m...

Ray - Hololive Gen 0 cover

Bump of Chicken's Ray is one of my favorite songs. That's why when this cover released, I take my time to embrace some defects that may appeared on the cover song. This is because seldom a cover can best the original.  Btw, why I like Ray is because Bump of Chicken uses Miku. My fascination for that song is because the singer and Miku harmonization. Such a great technique that I haven't heard of before. May be someone already did it before Ray,  but for me it was my first-time hearing Miku incorporated as duet singer with a human. I know there is  a version without Miku . It's not bad, but the usage of Miku is what, for me, making this song special.  Btw, about the cover. I don't think there is a special mention. My note for this is about Suisei's voice. She needs to learn to soften her voice if she wants to sing with soft-spoken singers. Her voice is too heavy compared to other members.  To get my point, the most obvious is at 3:37 . We can compare this...
