A Christmas to The Neglected

Kasih Tanpa Syarat - Christmas Celebration at Panti Sosial Tresna Werdha (edited) My Youth church had an unique idea of celebrating Christmas differently. They gave a thought of visiting a nursing house. This year, they had an idea to celebrate Christmas with many of our seniors. Last year we were going to an orphanage. The year before, we went to the streets visiting street children. This year, the core Christmas team suggested us to touch the old. Our Youth was lucky enough to have government nursing house Panti Sosial Tresna Werdha welcomed us. They let us used the auditorium for having Christmas celebration with our seniors there. Waiting to die Our Christmas committee made a brilliant idea. Before the Christmas celebration, each working day, Monday to Friday, we took shifts in small teams (three to five people) to visit the seniors. The idea behind this was for us to get to know our senior first before the celebration. Knowing them before the Christmas celebratio...

Voice Your Voice!

The video was about 26th year old wife protesting her husband practising polygamy. It was not an easy task for people to raise awareness. Not when the thing that being protested was something cultural. It was getting harder when the problem sometimes entangled with religion. There were things that made people uncomfortable when confronting such issue. Some people scared of what they did would inflict God's wrath. Some people unconsciously tried to defend their existence embodied in their deep rooted culture. Some felt that it was unnecessary to open the stinks out in the open. I'm not eligible to talk about the issue because I'm not a Moslem. I brought this up because issues like this not belong exclusively in Islam. They also exist in many ancient religions including Christianity. What I want to talk about is how we can start a positive discussion about these kind of sensitive matters. Culture vs Religion People often forget that sometimes parts of their religious a...

Erotic Dangdut

This video is a sub culture in Java called Dangdut Pantura. Dangdut is a downbeat music style that popular in Javanese culture derived from Hindustan. Pantura is a north region of Java island. Some people would mistakenly call this kind of performance by calling it Dangdut Koplo. That's not true. Dangdut Koplo is actually a sub genre of Funkot , a sub of House Music, with emphasis on Dangdut element. This stage play actually derived from a traditional dance Jaipong . There is nothing lewd from Jaipong. The dancer play her body elegantly as the music makes this mystically charming. An art that enticing yet seems spiritual. The Stage Show Unfortunately, this dance grow on people's culture as sexually innuendo. I don't know since when but it was there since long a go. In people's show, e.g. traditional wedding, circumcision and so on, they often invited traditional band to perform this dance. Thanks to a culture called Saweran combined with Dangdut   the dance be...

Why Not GMO

There is nothing wrong with GMO, except it would lead farmers dependent to its source. Many GMO seeds produced without seed. Some even have been tampered to only last one or two generation. I know that electronic industry also makes their component cheaper and not-last longer so there would be a cycle of refreshed demands. It is sickening to me. And to put that practice also to poor farmers... The prominent problem of GMO to me is not about the GMO itself. It is how far human greed tainted the seeds. Of course, the problem of GMO also the question of life. Would this product makes the other varieties gone? This might not pose a problem, but would really redefine what humanity is. Don't get me wrong. I'm also not that alergic to GMO products. I long for seeds that could withstand environment without using antibiotics or insecticides. As of now, I would not endorse GMO because of the social factor. May be someday I'll accept GMO. But, because of the current practice...

Ask, Ask Anythink!

The Indonesian Internet-sphere running havoc these past days. Many offended people said their condemn about two things: A male actor, Lukman Sardi, converted from Islam to Christian. The so called Gay Pride event made some people openly promoting it. Facebook made a gimmick apps as a notion. I've found many hate posters in my Facebook timeline because of those. I didn't particularly hate the haters. They were innocents anyway. They were victims. As a country with large discrepancy between the poor and the rich, Indonesia had many becoming escapists. They seek asylum from religion. As the religion became a dope, they would do anything willingly without thinking. Btw, why did I call them escapists? I could only think of those poor people as people that want to run from harsh reality. I cannot think of them religious. They only want to have convenient answers. They only fear about themselves but coating it with religious themes. They would easily misled with article...

Post

You may seems to find this blog is inactive. I think so too. But, 94 drafts means there are 94 articles unpublished! Most of them lengthy posts. Most of them written unedited and raw. Seems like I wrote them in anger and poured up all of my knowledge and said things that should be spoken. But, my sanity took me before I pressed the publish button. This blog should be a stress relieve for me to write things that I would like to say. I thought there is no one would read my bad English. My friend used to check my grammar, but he might already be too busy with his doctorate now. I notice when I reread my blog, I got so many grammatical error. I never bothered with it. This is a personal blog anyway. No ads or whatsoever. Boy, oh, boy, this blog ain't that hidden. When did this blog gained popularity? Sometimes I got interesting feedbacks from interesting people enriching my understanding of different cultures. The all time highest rate of traffic comes from STAN vs UI post. ...

Tell Her Already!

The girl asked the boy, "why do you always protect me?" And the boy afraid of his feeling revealed said that it was her sister's request. You could've been together. Why can't you be honest?

From Dust To Dust

Here I am writing this entry when I should've taking a deep sleep. I just got a cold from the rain. But, there is something bugging me since two days ago. My soul moved as I was reading オーバーロード. There was something relatable from the protagonist. His story made Cold Play repeatedly played Viva La Vida inside of my head. The story about a player on a MMORPG game that was about to meet its end. After 12 years in making, the developers decided to scrap it. In the final hours, the player was standing in his own guild, a place where players form an alliance. There he stood, reminiscing all the past glory with his friends. Each of them have made creations carved from their souls. Each of those solemn creatures were crafted carefully with great devotions. As if the world was the only place for them to be at. Even with that being said, they were unable to sustain. One by one dragged into reality leaving this once magnificent guild empty. Leaving this protagonist, the guild master...

Tolerance

Pope Francis speaks about Charlie Hebdo case. And then, people start bashing Pope Francis and accusing him as the proponent of the terrorist act. For them, it is alright to bash a religion because it is only a religion. But, as Voltaire, one of the thinker from France said: To learn who rules over you, simply learn who you are not allowed to criticize. This freedom of speech is a double standard. Maurice Sinet, a veteran writer at Charlie got fired because he wrote about anti-semitic article . Apparently you can bully some people but not the other one, especially the one percent. Many people argue about this, but let me ask you a question: Did the article kill someone? Did anyone get hurt physically? But, no, that is bla... bla... bla... this and bla... bla... bla... that different. Same old sheep comment. Parroting what the media told them. Both are hurtful. One for Islamic culture and one for the Jewish community. You can't defend one and tossing the other. That...

Me! Me! Me!

WARNING:  THE CONTENT OF THE WRITING IS ABOUT OTAKU CULTURE MANY EXPLICIT CONTENTS AHEAD! I KEEP MY WRITING CLEAN, BUT THE SOURCE UNFORTUNATELY NOT. Me! Me! Me! is a title for an animated video clip. The song composed by Teddyloid and sung by Hana. The video clip was an original work of Hibiki Yoshizaki . The animation was directed by Shuichi Iseki . Yoshizaki-sensei and Iseki-sensei were collaborators in Evangelion 3.0. Hmm... no wonder this video clip full of eerie things. These guys are twisted. :-) To understand the meaning, I read about the song. The song is in three parts, which you can see in the website as well. A redditor posted a translation of the song. I also read the Google translation of the song in the original site just for getting rough image of what this song about. The song was sung by a girl perspective. It was kind of vague to me. It seems this song about Otaku culture. Specifically, this seems about people that obsessed with 2D characters (anim...

Je Suis Moi

Commenting on Charlie Hebdo is heavy. I wait a while before writing this. It is not that I'm trying to justify the terrorist cause. But, I just want to say that the magazine got the risk they were betting on. They lose. They knew that Islam quite sensitive about their religious belief. They knew that it would insults many people. Yet, they do it over and over again. Of all people, they should have known that not many people have dark sense of humor. Especially, the one that being made fun was the fundamental of their belief, i.e. religion. There is something that non-religious people fail to understand. When people take religion to the heart, it becomes a raison d'être for that person. People would die for that reason. An atheist will stand to his belief of not trusting any existence known as god. A religious person will stand to his belief about his god. Trekkies fought between Original series and The Next Generation series. Can you call Star Wars stinks to a fanboy? ...

Blessings On Things You Owned

Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God. -- Ecclesiastes 5:19, KJV There are two parts of God's blessings about ownership: The blessing to have what you have. The blessing to enjoy what you have. Not everyone have the opportunity to have something. To some people, God gives them a grace to have such. And to others, God gives not. There are reasons why God gives them ownership of such; e.g. hard works, blessing inheritance and temptations. God blesses people who work hard. God also blesses people born from lineages of good people. God also let people be tempted to have what they desire. But, eventually the blessing to have something will not complete without the next blessing: To enjoy what we have. You can have all the richest of the world but still feel bitter about it. You can still feel empty in a house of glory. And, you can...
