Well, Whadaya Know, It's Still... Not There

There is a havoc in my country about the ITE legislation. Ups, did I say legislation? It still a non-existence law, for X sake's. It doesn't even out yet. (Hopefully it won't) This made someone cracked.... Did I say cracked ? Yes, dear, Sir Blog-Hanya-Trend-Sesaat (tm), it's called a cracking action. There is an obvious line between a cracker and a hacker. Furthermore, there is a huge, platonic gap between a hacker and a blogger! Obviously you didn't dig that first before commenting, did you? As for hacker and cracker, you find it distinguish in other site. But, for many people there seems not aware the power of blog. In Information Retrieval or Knowledge Management, there exist two kind of knowledges. The first one is Explicit Knowledge . This is the SOP etc that every organization have as assets. Well, there are also come along with them, the Tacit Knowledge . Dear lazy web, Explicit Knowledge is knowledge that have been documented and Tacit Knowledge is something...

Infringement Over A Song

http://www.unhappybirthday.com/ Do you know that if you sing "Happy Birthday" at public place, such as restaurant, you are breaking the law by using copyrighted material at public place. Luckily, its patent only holds in USA.

Java Xorg XCB Bug

If your Java having trouble running any graphical application, try to set this environment variable: export LIBXCB_ALLOW_SLOPPY_LOCK=1 This is due to the broken implementation of Java with Xorg when XCB enabled. I know the only right solution is to disable XCB, but it affects other applications such as Acroread. Symptoms: Locking assertion failure. Backtrace: #0 /usr/lib/libxcb-xlib.so.0 [0xb5c10767] #1 /usr/lib/libxcb-xlib.so.0(xcb_xlib_unlock+0x31) [0xb5c108b1] #2 /usr/lib/libX11.so.6(_XReply+0xff) [0xad245acf] #3 /var/tmp/install_7890/usr/java/jre1.6.0_04/lib/i386/xawt/libmawt.so [0xad3508ce] #4 /var/tmp/install_7890/usr/java/jre1.6.0_04/lib/i386/xawt/libmawt.so [0xad32d067] #5 /var/tmp/install_7890/usr/java/jre1.6.0_04/lib/i386/xawt/libmawt.so [0xad32d318] #6 /var/tmp/install_7890/usr/java/jre1.6.0_04/lib/i386/xawt/libmawt.so(Java_sun_awt_X11GraphicsEnvironment_initDisplay+0x2f) [0xad32d61f] #7 [0xb5c9becd] #8 [0xb5c94edd] #9 [0xb5c94edd] #10 [0xb5c92249] #11 /var/tmp/install_7890...

Just An Intermezzo

If you have programming in embedded systems, what would you suggest when you have a situation that you must choose between implementations: HashMap . The algorithm is O(1), but it takes more memory footprint. LinkedList . The algorithm is O(n), but it takes less memory and traverse more. Another fair question is how to make the following C code can be achieved in Java with minimal overhead: char ch* = &a; char** chCh = &ch; So, when the ch has been assigned to a new value, chMap  also automatically pointed to the pointer's new location also. Of course, the  char  is only subtitute to any object Java can implements. How to control an Axis servlet when you embed it on Jetty? Running the admin client just to activate a POJO WS is utterly a waste of energy. Besides, you are exposing the admin client's password. Is there a way to make that programatically? Another interresting thing to do is to calculate how much data transmitted when you have a WS-Security request sent ove...

Java XML Configurator

Hmm.. I wonder what is the best, is it Xerces, simple, or Apache Commons Configuration for XML configuration library? Of course, performance is crucial here. We don't need any bloated solution. Or, have you done anything more simple? Any idiots knows that hard code is the way of anti bloated. But, you can't use that to deploy in application used in more than 10 sites. That's suicide.

Journey of Filesystem

http://arstechnica.com/articles/paedia/past-present-future-file-systems.ars A little bit sloppy article but could give clues about Filesystem history. The writing not so techie so can be read by n00b.

A New Hobby

What the Kambing maintainers do when they feel stressed? They would drop connections and block users. So, for you out there that uses limited bandwidth but storms Kambing with TOO MANY connections, enjoy our new hobby. Well, as for me, I'd rather play Ajax and taming the PHP. Man, it's so hard to use PHP.

UI Goes Blogging

Now, Universitas Indonesia (UI) owns a blogging site powered by Wordpress MU blogging engine. At first I find it a little awkward as we, the admin, are Drupalist. But, of course the magic of theme and higher usability make us choose Wordpress MU. Still, I don't find it easier to customize. But, that's probably me just like I'm not so capable of PHP and prefer Java, Bash, or perhaps Perl. The site is intended for the staff only and you must log with your UI username . I've been lurking around and found some interesting subject: NeoLiberalism 101 -- Dedicated to Neoliberalism , has interesting illustrative photo, and the talk is humanist. The Microbiology Teacher -- My fave, I like the writing in here. char101's Blog -- One of my colleague. Wannabe Exceptional -- My blog. :-) Frankly, the name of the blog was setup by someone else and I'm trying to figure it out. But, thanks to the person now I have a catchy name for a blog. And the list goes on.

Report On RFID Asia Summit 2008

What on my heart would say after attending the show? Sad. The new and running technology that was the star of the show, NFC , would not run on Indonesia in near future. At least that was on my heart. The problem is not because of we have no capability, but it is more of the flaw of current business process. Today's Indonesian regulation flawed so much that the requirements of NFC would not met in near future. For the sake of clarity, let me explain a little about NFC. NFC as brief can be described as the merger of RFID technology combined with selular telecommunication (telco). Today, they even take further by using Smart Card technology embedded for creating reliable and secure communication. The basic setup of NFC is to implement RFID technology on a mobile device (e.g. hand phone and PDA) and integrate it with the mobile device application. To enhance further, NFC implemented a secure chipset based on Global Platform 2.2 specification with Over The Air technology. This adden...

WTF With This Nation Education System

Did you know that 41 out of 56 universities would like to have boycott on SPMB or Selection for Entering Higher Education? The 41 universities agreed on boycott because of the transparency problem in SPMB committee. They are agreed that they would make their own exams. This is another problem of sacrificing Idealism for Politics. Why on earth you would make such drastic measurement? You just can simply make a motion of distrust and sets 2 years time for the SPMB committee to make adjustment. Two years would be, imho, the right time for making such drastic change. The problem of SPMB is not just about the system, it's about the equality of having opportunity to enter the universities. Imagine if ITB, UGM, and Unpad having their own tests. Then, the people who wants to get in must enrolled in one of them. This is not a problem if you are living in Java island. But, how about people from Sumatera or Borneo? Come on people, these are times where darkness covering our nation. Your chi...

Why GNU/Linux Not So Popular in Indonesia

WS-JP: Revolting JP in WS

Java is a great tool as a language but sucks at some points. Why can't I use two different keystore files in my application? One for my embedded Axis/Jetty server and one for my Axis WS client. I know, when it comes to connection any fools out there whom prefer instant production would suggest using plain HTTP connection. Mind you! I will never let any of my product with that kind of quality. And I would not have my quality time of playing wasted on the overkill productivity such as write yet another WS library. Just leave the SAX and those JAX-RPC, JAX-WS, and WS-* to the right people and Apache is them. Oh, btw, to have your own keystore just put these lines in the main: System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStore", "YOUR_KEYSTORE"); System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStorePassword", "YOUR_PASSWORD"); I know, you can use the funky way like mentioning it in command lines by adding -Djavax.net.ssl.trustStore=YOUR_KEYSTORE -Djavax.net.ss...

What Is This Trend?

Starting from the Narpati's quick wed to this entry by a Man-Was-Known-As-Ijul-But-Not-Anymore . (Whoi, mana monty pythonnya?) I am getting a little tension about it and hope nobody would brought it up, but they did. Yesterday after I and my father ate at Solaria, the worst and the least place of my recommendation, we agreed to go to Hypermart. He said we would bought some fruit. Well, it was a nice idea since I myself want to grab a can of beer. The place was new and I were not a type of people that like to go sightseeing so I trusted my father to lead the way. But, he purposely lead to the wrong way and went to a girl shop and said "Hey, the lady who watches the shop is beautiful, let's we take a look at her." Shoot, another trap from him to lure me into the mortal world. Hmm... I think I realize that even my parents very concern about my abnormality towards romance and attraction to opposite sex -- not that I am attracted to the same sex, mind you! Their gestures...

Yet Another (tm) Media Havoc: The Bacterium Case

According to Sitares [http://staff.blog.ui.edu/sitares/], Indonesian media has responsible to make another catastrophe in telling the truth about the Sakazakii bacterium. The original research was about the Neonatal Meningitis disease in correlation with Enterobacter Sakarizii. The team found that from 22 samples of baby formula 22,73% were infected and 40% of 15 samples of baby food were also infected. But, note on the research also wrote that further investigation is needed to claim infection on all baby food and formula. So, Indonesian media between ratings and the truth, which one would you choose? Is it educating or entertaining?
