My Phone

I love customising my phone. The first thing I'd do after buy a new one is to unlock the phone. Then, I'd install any of AOSP/LineageOS (Android free version) on it. I don't like the original software. They full of bloatware that bogging the phone. Besides, the modding community could also provide some interesting features that would eventually becomes a norm. The first benefit I would have from the custom ROM is actually longer battery life. I usually couldn't survive a day with original. But, with custom ROM I could even get a day and more. BTW, I just downgraded my ROM from Android Pie (9.0) to Android Nougat (7.1.2). Why? Because it seems Google abandoned the MirrorLink ® . I think with the  ® on it, I can understand why Google decided to ditch it and go with Chromecast solution. Nougat is the last that have MirrorLink ® ability. This is sucks because most of modern cars and TVs have MirrorLink ® on them. So, Android phone with newer version of Android  woul...

Ethnicity in Locality

Crazy Rich Asian is an important film for us culturally. At shallow view, it may seems only a generic romantic comedy by a generic director who happens to be an Asian. But, for us to look further, there are new views that not only important to Asian American, but also Indonesian and all the people of the world. If you watch closely, it also define a problem about one ethnic, Chinese descendants that would culturally different. A Singaporean Chinese, a China Chinese (in diaspora), British Chinese and an American Chinese would have different culture and thought. The China Chinese, the Grandma, is only capable of talking in Mandarin. She also hold her cultural background tightly. This hold dearly because I experience it myself. As a Bataknese, I also saw the first generation diaspora (my father and his brothers/sisters) hold their Batak tradition tightly.  They even more culturally connected than the people in their origin. Yes, Bataknese in the North Sumatera hold their cultur...

Bucin

Some of my friends called me a Bucin, Budak Cinta (Slave of Love). It was because I'm no longer in Universitas Indonesia and I'm now working as an office worker on a corporation. I was no longer available freely to any Free/Open Source movements. All of these events was because I married a lovely woman. Well, I don't mind to be called a slave of love. I would prefer to call myself to have another calling. That is to love someone and be there for her. Let's just say, she captured my heart and I now have a new purpose in life.

Perspectives and Fear

Black Panther is an ongoing film with so many things to discuss. People often talks about Black movement et cetera. I find it interesting to dissect the characters, especially the lead and the antagonist. T'Challa T'Challa was an African descent. Raised in the protective world of Wakanda. As a Wakandan, he was born with the original environment. He would only see every other African tribes as his neighbour. It is natural that he would have a view like the view of a Scotsman would to an Englishman. He would feel distinctive between his five tribes with the Zulu and the Ethiopian. They are not being viewed as brothers, but as neighbors that could possess national threat. For me in Indonesia, it is like Indonesian and Malaysian would feel at each other. Both country would sometimes bring national issue and try to be hostiled at each other. We would feel that we inherit different cultures. The language, national anthem and so on is different. While at it, Indonesian was free ...
