I like how it uses real instruments. I only watched the original after watching the cover by Risu and Iofi. I'm trying to compare them based on the YouTube videos. I don't know the output in BD nor CD version of Bandori.

Here's my thoughts comparing them two:

Both Bandori and cover music is on par. Tyas Pratama has his magic for creating music using real instruments. I think he is a talented session musician based on the other Hololive music that he was part of.

The vocal performance is different between the Bandori and the cover. Each of them has their own charm. Both are great.

For the vocal volume, I think the cover a little bit higher on the volume. My preference is to lower the vocal a little bit, just a little bit not too much. The Bandori version has better balance between the vocal and the music.

For the vocal processing, I like the cover version. May be because this is a studio version, the reverb is much more desired than the Bandori version. Again, I'm comparing this to the YouTube link provided by cover. May be it would be better in the studio version.

For the adlibs, I would give the edge to the cover version. I feel goosebumps from it. Bandori version is probably because of the live version so it would not have too much processing. The cover version has a smoother/dreamy like kind of feeling to it.

I think the cover did a fantastic job and worth listening.

jpmrbloodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15536898414897248544noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11960037.post-55933627259074945752024-01-31T18:32:00.006+07:002024-02-01T13:37:56.955+07:00Ray - Hololive Gen 0 cover

Bump of Chicken's Ray is one of my favorite songs. That's why when this cover released, I take my time to embrace some defects that may appeared on the cover song. This is because seldom a cover can best the original.

Btw, why I like Ray is because Bump of Chicken uses Miku. My fascination for that song is because the singer and Miku harmonization. Such a great technique that I haven't heard of before. May be someone already did it before Ray, but for me it was my first-time hearing Miku incorporated as duet singer with a human.

I know there is a version without Miku. It's not bad, but the usage of Miku is what, for me, making this song special.

Btw, about the cover. I don't think there is a special mention. My note for this is about Suisei's voice. She needs to learn to soften her voice if she wants to sing with soft-spoken singers. Her voice is too heavy compared to other members.

To get my point, the most obvious is at 3:37. We can compare this to the 3:41 Bump of Chicken version.

Her bass voice for the backing vocal also seems a little bit not blending well. I think this probably the missing alto voice in the mix. Her duet sings with soft voice in high register making her voice too noticeable.

I tried to compare this with Bump of Chicken. The vocalist takes the range note a little bit mid to higher register. That's why his voice blends well with Miku's.

Btw, I found out about the arrangements with bass. I try to compare Sui's voice with Project Sekai's version (LEO). I think I know the problem. Sui voice is too distinctive. Her voice should be lowered and put a little bit behind. I can hear her vocal techniques while she should be a background singer.

In LEO's version, the bass voice sang the voice uniformly. Also, the voice is a little bit behind so that we can hear the lead singer well. I don't know if the Holo version is intentionally move Sui's voice forward. But, that makes me a little bit weird.

For me, the cover is not my cup of tea. The way they arrange the singing part a little bit too much for me. I know they need to balance the section for each singer, but the different voice textures make me a little bit overwhelmed listening to the whole song.

It's a good cover, but these things make me unable to listen this repeatedly.
jpmrbloodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15536898414897248544noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11960037.post-2634319223994582262024-01-23T02:05:00.001+07:002024-01-23T02:05:10.667+07:00PT Hung-A Exits and The Narratives Created

A Tyre manufacturer, PT Hung-A Indonesia, just laid off one and a half thousands of its employees. The company was running in 33 years. Many speculations arose surrounding this big company's exit.

Let's put the facts first. PT Hung-A Indonesia is moving to Vietnam. The closing of Indonesian manufacture is an exit strategy to move the production to a Vietnam's factory. Why making such move?

They were sinking. The production line is no longer profitable in Indonesia. They couldn't make the tyres that the client wants.

The tyre manufacturer was waiting for import license. They couldn't make another plant. They need to import more components. They were waiting for that permission.

TBH, I couldn't blame the government for why the permission was not issued. I have no data to back up the blame. May be there was something that was not permitted.

Now let's go discuss the BS analytics!

One of the rumors created was because the labor cost. So many comments on the Internet blaming the labor and the labor organizations. They feel like the labor organization made the labor cost unfriendly to the business.

I don't think there was ever an issue with the labor organization asking for higher minimum pay. The government would never be taking a risk by raising the standard too high without considering the entrepreneurs. They will absolutely be asking them first.

However, many of the bad practices come from Indonesian entrepreneurs. Some of them tried to scam the labors by not paying their health insurance even when it was cut from their income. Some of them has a notorious story of not paying the labors. Some of them not even try to implement safety in workplace.

For those injustice in the workplace, wouldn't that be a good time to take their right to protest?

I don't agree with some of the Astra group business practices, but have you ever heard of Astra Group labors taking a demo?

One of my friends was an ex-Astra Honda company. She said that they usually go to demo just to make a solidarity with other labors. The coordinator from other companies would go and call them out.

Astra Group has a good plan that supports its employees. It has a good standard in improving their employees. Why can't the other companies do it?

I'm starting to get curious about those people who always blaming labor cost. Are they real? Are they buzzer that get paid to spread the misinformation?

I don't think I have enough energy to discuss about other issues.

I mean, we got a lot of unlawful costs. It's a common theme over the years but no solution ever been given. We all know about it, but none with the authority goes beyond yet.

I mean, I could say let the labors stand for their factories and beat up any NGO that trying to get extra pocket money from their respective factories. But that would be an unlawful behavior. Vigilante is not a solution. And sometimes, the NGO has their right point to interrupt a factory operation.

I can say, let's build a national railroad so that the distribution of goodies will have lower costs. But, what about the truckers?

Anyway, I better leave that to others with better in-depth knowledge.

I just curious about why they want to move to Vietnam. I found astonishing facts that would make tyre industry blooming there:

Vietnam tyre companies are certified as Green Company. With this competency, they can go and export their products to Europe. This contrast with Indonesia that still in the fight with Europe over Palm Oil and Nickel. This kind of relationship can jeopardize other companies including the tyre company. Deforestation is a major issue right now for EU and I don't think our rubber plantation is ready for that.

As a number two natural producer, rubber plantation in Indonesia is mostly held by smallholder rubber farmers. This is awesome but unfortunately have a big shortcoming. They usually not that informed about the distribution and any rule change.

Hmm... this is not making any sense! [About Hung-A moving out]

As I researched further, actually our rubber plantation is well-supported by the world. The UN has a program to make sustainable rubber plantation. I mean, who wouldn't want to implement the program? It is for the farmers, not big corpo!

If EU really try to ban the plantation, it will be banning the farmers! So, we can be sure that the rubber plantation is actually a safe plantation.

Oh, I think I see the point the Indonesian government wants to make with these tyre companies.

<span style="background-color: white; color: #455f7c; font-family: "Open Sans", "Open Sans fallback", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px;">Indonesia has the largest rubber plantation in the world. But despite the significant <a href="https://www.statista.com/statistics/1241006/indonesia-rubber-planted-area-by-type-of-ownership/" rel="noopener" style="-webkit-font-smoothing: antialiased; background-color: white; border: 0px; color: #0666e5; font-family: "Open Sans", "Open Sans fallback", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; margin: 0px; padding: 0px; text-rendering: optimizelegibility; transition: color 0.3s ease 0s; vertical-align: baseline;" target="_blank">size of Indonesia’s rubber plantation area<span style="background-color: white; color: #455f7c; font-family: "Open Sans", "Open Sans fallback", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 15px;">, barriers to maximizing its potential still exist. Downstream activities, such as post-harvest handling, manufacturing, and processing are still not as significant due to the lack of infrastructure and product diversification. Without a new approach, Indonesia’s rubber industry would remain heavily dependent on the export markets in the next decades while its domestic rubber consumption stays low.

I think Jokowi administration wants to have a domestic industry for the rubber industry. That might be the reason why the permit for import is being withheld. I adore that fight for better future even though it is taking its toll right now.

Natural rubber real enemy right now is actually the synthetic rubber. Based on the trend, it provides higher margin. So, it's natural that the demand for the natural rubber may decreasing in the near future.

China as a market leader in producing and consuming synthetic rubber may produce better synthetic rubber production techniques. I can say that for sure because the demand for rubber is so high. Also, learning from their automotive industry, I can say that China has that knack for rapid continuous improvement.

Anyway....

Many major tyre companies actually make the effort to invest in Indonesia. Michelin and Goodyear are the good examples. We also have a local company Gajah Tunggal. The most recent one is a Chinese tyre company invested in Indonesia.

Sigh....

With the advent of electric car, a new market is now growing for tyre manufacturer. It seems Huang-A makes a decision years before to move its operation to Vietnam. I can say they might have taken the wrong step with wrong prediction.

They have the advantage of 33 years in Indonesia. They should've invested more in Indonesia. But they chose to invest elsewhere making their Indonesian factory out of business.

I don't blame them for diversification. It's a valid reason. They are a business. They need profit.

It's just that I think they are in the wrong move right now. But who am I to judge? Maybe they have their reason to move to Vietnam; reason that I don't know about because in the end I'm just an outsider trying to figure out the reason.

Big company is like an airplane. They can't change their direction easily. It takes years to move out. I think they won't be coming back soon.

However, I'm curious if the rest of the company left in Indonesia built another factory in Central Java like the rumor said. It would be another delicious gossip around corpo trying to cut cost.

I don't know.

I just wanted to make a rebuttal about labor being the issue. Why is this progressing towards the rubber and tyre industry? I need to stop right now. Lol.
jpmrbloodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15536898414897248544noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11960037.post-62258932350951967392024-01-17T17:55:00.004+07:002024-01-17T18:11:18.155+07:00Preserving A Language with Foreign Alphabet System

An Indonesian area, Bau-bau, try to preserve its ingenious language Cia-cia using Hangul (a Korean alphabets). This is a good example in modern time where a culture imported foreign system and adapt them to their own culture. They borrow the letters but not the language.

It happens since ancient time. The ancient Greeks adopting the Phonecian alphabet. The Japanese adapted the Kanji from the Tang dynasty. Bahasa Indonesia imported Latin characters as their written expression. Now it happened again in the modern time for Baubau people.

Although it raises a concern from nationalists, the usage of Hangul is justified to preserve the pronunciation. As a commenter, @seokjinnie761, in that video explained:

For those of you asking why didn't they choose to modify Latin alphabet instead? The answer is, they could. But there are some problems related to its changing phonetics. Check out this letter ㅍ, called pieup. Both Korean and Cia Cia speakers pronounce this letter as an aspirated 'p' (IPA: /pʰ/). If Cia Cia were to modify the Latin alphabet, they would probably modify it to a diphthong 'ph'.

Since Indonesian Latin characters are in favor among its citizens, then the Cia Cia speakers would undoubtedly follow that suit and write the aspirated 'p' (IPA: /pʰ/) as just 'p', because there's no an aspirated character or diphthong in Indonesian and the closet character to write is 'p'. This would certainly have a fatal consequence for its speakers in the future. The future generation is likely to mispronounce it simply as a consonant 'p' (IPA: /p/) instead of an aspirated 'p' (IPA: /pʰ/).

Additionally, there is another possibility if they continue to use the modified Latin alphabet. For example, the diphthong 'ph' is likely to be pronounced as the consonant 'f' (IPA: /f/) due to the general Indonesian understanding that the diphthong ph is often pronounced that way. There are so many modified latin alphabets in Indonesia. But Bahasa Indonesia version of Latinization is still dominant.

Take a look at Javanese as an example. It has its own version of the Latin alphabet, which uses the letter å to represent the phoneme /ɔ/. However, this version of the Latin alphabet isn't very popular among its speakers. So most Javanese people use the conventional Latin alphabet used in Indonesian by using 'o' to write the phoneme. This has led to the mispronunciation of many Javanese words, such as the city of Pånårågå, which is now officially written as Ponorogo and mispronounced as /ponoˑroɡo/ instead of the original /pɔnɔˑrɔɡɔ/

I, personally, love this. They can now preserve the way it sounds. We don't need to fight like trying to explain what the Bible said in 2000 years from now. Documentation of Hangul and how the alphabet sounds are already preserved digitally. While ceteris paribus and no World War 3 happening in the future, we should be able to know how the Cia-cia originally sounds like.

Regarding nationalist concern, it's common for local language has their own alphabet. Javanese has its own language and alphabet system derived from Pallava alphabet. In most Java province, places and streets are being written in Bahasa Indonesia and Javanese. We also treat this Hangul as a modern evolution for Cia-cia language like the old Javanese language.

There exists an alternative that can be used with Latin-like alphabet. The Cia-cia language could use International Phonetic Alphabet for its writing system. It's a modified Latin alphabet with accents to accommodate most (if not all) human sounds. Not an Indonesian Latin alphabet, but at least it is a derivation of Latin characters. It is used in Wikipedia to explain Cia-cia language.

However, it has its own limitation also. The fonts that support it are limited. The only fonts supporting it are IPA Kiel, DejaVu Sans and Doulos SIL. May be there are other fonts. But that are what available on the website.

Also, from the beginning of the video, they were helped by a Korean person. No SIL scholar was there. It's an ode for her friendship with her two genmates, Iofi and Risu. The song describes how they always support each other.

It's a feels good song. The song started with staccato guitar, a signature lightness in slice of life. Later, it would build up with piano, light drum play and finger flick as main snare.

Why is this so special and feels repeatable for me? It's because most of the instruments are real instruments! I feel need to appreciate the song because of that.

The bass random distortion, especially in the slide portion, feels really personal. I don't think this kind of bass can be reproduce with software. Rudy Zulkarnaen really played hard on this. I love how Ari Renaldi minimized the compression to allow the natural sound of the bass.

When I tried to compare with Tulus' Hati-hati di Jalan, the bass has less treatment. It has less reverb. For the production stand of view, I feel Tulus has more treatment on balancing in music production. May be a budget thingie...

It's not a bad thing. This song slaps. For majority of people who listen this song while doing other things, it is not noticeable.

My personal view about balancing is a delicate job. My church's album Haleluya Ministry was recorded in the 90s. Even though we have the original master tape, the re-released album feels different. As my memory served, I remember that on the original release, we sent the master to BASF lab for balancing while on the re-release I believe they only sent the master for production.

Nowadays, we only producing music in DAW. It's a good thing because DAWs lower the cost multiple times. We can have so many takes and choose the feels right one. It is different when using 32 track tape, we really need to take the whole thing because we can't really predict the position of the song. I remember we need to re-take the whole song because the producer felt the singing better than the first take.

Everybody can record their own song now with affordable cost. However, Moona's "Taut Hati" gets elevated by the real string produced by Budapest Scoring. Nothing beats real instrument, especially the String section.

As Guruh Soekarno Putra said on the Sound Taste, the real string instrument elevates, makes the sound bold (rich). From my listening experience, Ari Renaldi seems makes the String sound tamer than Tulus' song. Again, may be because of the budget thingie. But it really is elevating the sound. You can feel the goosebumps starts at 1:11. It brings the sound dynamics to the peak.

Speaking of dynamics, there are different techniques which probably a signature for some of the composer. The purpose of them is to bring dynamics to the song.

On the other HoloID song like Bokura Ga Kuru Kara, Eka Gustiwana introduce bridge with lowering the tempo to reset the tension. On Zeta's You're Mine, Yusuke Nakamura introduce Rap. These are landmines because different part like that risks of making people thrown out from the song immersion.

On "Taut Hati", the song mood is elevating gradually until the end by adding the instruments. Ari Renaldi added layer upon layer of instrument to elevate the music. That's why the Strings felt earned.

For Moona, I think she has produced a good sound here. I can see that she can go to higher level with her sound produced at 0:59. She is really talented.

Gosh, I feel like I'm bashing on Moona. But really, her vocal is good in this. It's just that I feel that her musical training regiments she can push her dynamics more. You know, that Asian father thingie, felt like A won't good enough because I see there is an A+.

I like her backing vocal and her main sing here. So, there is not much I can tell you about that. I'm not really that good for describing vocal terms.

Anyway,

This song is good and my ear will not bleed from repeat plays. Congratulations, Moona.
jpmrbloodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15536898414897248544noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11960037.post-17941592493426447632024-01-12T12:48:00.002+07:002024-01-12T12:48:12.287+07:00Anya Melfissa - Phony [cover]

Anya Melfissa's Phony is the best version for me. I don't like the original which is a vocaloid song. My ears still can't get used to the uncanny way the song expressed by the vocaloid mixer.

However, Anya Melfissa really made this song enjoyable for me. Here's the reason:

Her nasal voice makes an uncanny voice which really blends well with the music. However, the overall sound itself feels natural for my ear.

Her way of singing feels sinical and self-deprecating. Really made me feel the intention of the song. I do read the lyric translation and I feel her voice really express this one.

Yes, I do listen to all the other covers including Suisei's version. My vote goes to Anya for the best Phony cover.

jpmrbloodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15536898414897248544noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11960037.post-54714690085231417022024-01-10T15:15:00.001+07:002024-01-10T15:15:23.530+07:00Monobloc Chair

Vergil's chair.

jpmrbloodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15536898414897248544noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11960037.post-69412211168688801022024-01-10T12:42:00.002+07:002024-01-10T12:42:23.142+07:00Moona - High Tide (Remastered)

Moona Hoshinova of Hololive Indonesia produced an EP with High Tide being remastered. High Tide was her song created with ZSunder as producer. The song was using K/DA as inspiration. It also became the highlight of the Holofest 3rd concert in the first day.

Enough with the trivia.

I feel the remastered version is a degraded version. I feel the original is way better.

Before the critic, the improvement for Moona's pronunciation in the remastered version is a good thing.

The remastered version feels like has faster tempo. This makes the main vocal and the backup singer out-of-sync. I'm inclined to believe that Moona lost the raw Master recording and put the flavor on top of that.

Oh, the echoing reverb on the voice feels too much for me. I think the remastered want to convey the lingering feelings from the reverb, especially in the pre-chorus. However, I feel that is not needed, I prefer the Hall reverb in the original is best.

All in all, I feel the original is better.

If Moona wants to remaster, I believe she should do it like Taylor Swift: recreating the instruments. And plus, vocal like now, minus the reverb. I believe for a K-Pop-style music, there is an improvement can be made to the song. It can be done by adding layers of instruments to make the song tighter.

jpmrbloodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15536898414897248544noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11960037.post-28934321861739209052023-11-27T09:50:00.005+07:002023-11-27T09:50:57.917+07:00Voice

AI generated image from Freepik

For the longest time, I am a proponent of non-edited voice. There seems an uncanny valley feeling coming from a pitch corrected voice. That's why I'm in-tune with people that don't like Autotune.

But, why?

A hate like any other Newton's law is something that is coming from a cause. I believe there is a cause of this. I want to explain that much.

I think from my long contemplation, I got what the thing that made auto-tuned voice feels not right for me. They feel too right.

Our conscious can differentiate things. The inconsistency in a singing voice actually brings coded emotion signals that is perceive by our conscious. The auto-tune usually flat out those signals. It makes the nuggets from coded emotions become unreadable.

That's also why some songs feels bland. The voice is no longer coded with emotions as they are being flattened by auto-tune and overly compressed filter. Yeah, the fault is not only on the auto-tune alone.

Emotions can be quantified by the way singer sings the song. The vibrato, the touch of hitting a little bit lower/higher frequency, and the things that made our voice may not perfectly on 261.63Hz on C scale.

The extreme of that is why we can accept song sung by Alanis Morrisett and Cindy Lauper.

Stylized Voices

As that being said, I don't think I'm not open to stylized voice. I mean, everyone in the industry now using some form of auto-tune. It is not going away any moment. Probably later the music industry will circle back to open voice.

That's why, I am now shifting my internal thought to perceive the voice as one of the instruments. Then, the later would be the question of whether I can accept such instrument or not. It is much easier to accept with that.

I mean I already accept how Daft Punk sing their song.

jpmrbloodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15536898414897248544noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11960037.post-46107346285949479692023-10-10T13:20:00.001+07:002023-10-10T13:20:05.824+07:00Linkin Park - Lost, the fan's music video

A.I. is a controversial topic currently in the world of artistry. Most of the artists are adamant to recognize the said technique as a valid art. The most argument from them is that A.I. is using other's art to generate art. The said usage may infringe copyrighted art.

Linkin Park uses A.I. in their official MV. They used kaiber.ai to generate the video animation. Based on the product description, kaiber.ai is using the A.I. to generate animation-style.

The A.I. seems using stable diffusion to generate the sequence of images. That's why the animation is not consistent. Corridor Digital discussed this as the A.I. is designed to create image not a series of images. The noises randomly created by A.I. made each picture differ from each other.

That's why the animation may jumpy and flickered.

In other video, that may be not ideal, but this MV is talking about memories. Memories are fuzzy. They sometimes play the incoherent series of imaginations. Sometimes, it would present images that is not there in the reality.

The usage of A.I. generated fuzzy series of images really makes sense. It makes the video really a series of memories played inside the head.

However,

I really love the fan's version more from the official version.

The original Linkin Park depicted the memories from a girl from her last moment. The fan's version is more anonymous and can be personalized to me, the viewer. The video also really match with Linkin Park.

The fuzzy images of them Linkin Park embarking the journey to outer space is a testament for this band over the years. The band didn't stick at their original style, Nu Metal. They try to explore on other territory, not afraid to startle their fans.

For me, their finest album, A Thousand Suns, is the mark of their growth. They talked about war, about the victim's feeling, about the anxiety to release forgiveness and moving forward. I have kept the CD well and from time to time I always come back to play the album.

Also, I remember Han directed Meteora and all of their MVs. He seemed try to push the animation forward. I can see the Animatrix style video in there, the experimental imaginary. And now, they don't afraid to push the boundary and put A.I. generated MV.

All in all, these reasons I think that made me feel the fan's version is the it.
jpmrbloodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15536898414897248544noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11960037.post-19957162329886383492023-09-15T10:25:00.002+07:002023-09-15T10:25:15.171+07:00Kobo Kanaeru - Everything Goes On

This song originally sung by Porter Robinson. He used heavy stylized voice typical for the EDM song. Kobo Kanaeru, however, take a different approach by using natural voice.

This song plays at its strongest using piano rift and I think this is right on the alley of Redshift, the music producer of this Kobo Kanaeru rendition. I can feel the KZ livetune rift on Last Night Tonight appearing in this music video. Well, Redshift was one of the oldest Vocaloid producer from Indonesia. I think the existence of Vocaloid nuggets on their song is a natural progression.

At the first hearing, I am a little disappointed on Kobo at 2:52 when it was supposed to be the climax. She seems a little bit struggling when trying to do power notes. I wish the song could have been stylized or modulated to higher note. Either way, the song should have been a bit more powerful if we get that part. I think the payoff is too weak.

However, I can see this as a "Viva La Vida" type of music. Really cool to hear this on a rainy day.
jpmrbloodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15536898414897248544noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11960037.post-80295565955578648872023-09-13T14:57:00.004+07:002023-09-14T17:56:34.333+07:00JKT48v - Punkish, A True Punk Song

This is the first generation of JKT48 Virtual division. A controversial move from JKT48 team to refresh its value in the entertainment industry. Their hardcore fans always dissing the VTuber industry as a whole. They kept defending their oshi and the realness part of them. But now this happens....

Oh, boy, there is nothing real in the entertainment industry. It's all just roleplaying even if the person is real. Anyway, we don't go there for now.

The Controversy

I can see some 48 fans flaming their disappointment in the chat. They still can't accept this reality. They are still waiting for the original songs for JKT48. Something that they were promised years ago.

Unfortunately for them, the music entertainment industry is already changing. CD is no longer available option. We see many CD distributors like Disc Tarra have falling down. Even food franchises like KFC are no longer actively selling the CDs. It's all online now.

Online streaming like Spotify is not viable for short term. It generates revenue at a low pace than the intending Return of Investment. Yes. The music industry is dying, at least the traditional one.

They need a new market or the 48 group would die.

That's why the move from JKT48 is actually a good one. The Idol group can go to other entertainment industry like the e-Sport industry. It's not a secret that currently companies seek online presences for advertising their products.

The JKT48 initiative making a collaboration with AKA Virtual to create its own VTuber division is a good move. They also seem copy the good formula from Hololive Indonesia. The first unit contains only 3 members.

And now, let's get back to the song.

The Song

As a controversial unit, what is the best song for that? Yes, the anti-establishment type of music: Punk. They need to state their intention to the world that they would break the stereotype: An Idol group should be an Idol group.

No! They are the new division that would like to uncover the new world. Breaking the status quo. Born from a traditional Idol group. They are the new "it"! They are breaking the laws.

However, technically, the song's title "Punkish" is a reminiscent of Punk. It won't be a full Punk. So, understandable this is a Pop song with Punk progression.

HOWEVER

I found out that there are parts of the lyric that I found them interesting.

The First Verse is TRUE PUNK

The first I would like to address is they have a sh*tty lyrics. Some parts are incoherent, and I wish them to rewrite those parts to make sense in Bahasa Indonesia. I mean, why you talk about a cat? What's the idea behind it?

From my search I found out that the song was released as a Japanese song by NMB48. This is a sister group/franchise from the global 48 family. It was released as a single in 2015.

Later, JKT48 took the song and translate it as their own. The singers are from J unit. Btw, these 48 franchises have teams known as unit. This version of the song that is currently sung by JKT48v members.

Second thing about the lyrics is that I am commending them the JKT48 group to have subversive lyric incorporated into their song. I'm saluting JKT48 for the first verse!

Their first verse is this:

Belajar terus juga (Enggak guna! Enggak guna!)
Mau serius rajin kerja (Enggak guna! Enggak guna!)
Nggak akan bisa membantu negara (Enggak guna! Enggak guna!)
Biarin petinggi aja yang berjuang

My rough English translation for that is:

Keep studying is... (Useless! Useless!)
Keep working hard (Useless! Useless!)
It won't help the country (Useless! Useless!)
Let the officials do the fighting.

OMG! Such a rebellious lyric. It warrants a wipe out if this song was sung at New Order era! But they did it! They sung this lyric bravely.

I commend them to have the lyric of New Order's Iwan Fals. I mean, this song is like his song! I would imagine this as sacred as "Bento"! The song is now turning into a song about youth rebellion against current situation in Indonesia where there is less and less opportunity for them to rise and contribute. This may be because current political system is being held by some old cronies in few separated parties.

I agree with Vice, JKT48 is more punk than punk band!

Just to make it clear that this is a JKT48 song, let's compare it to the original lyric by NMB48. Kazelyrics pointed out that the translation of the lyrics:

どうせ勉強したって(変わらへん 変わらへん)
仕事真面目にしたって(変わらへん 変わらへん)
日本が変わるわけじゃねえ(変わらへん 変わらへん)
偉い人に頑張って貰おうぜ

is about:

Or, my English translation of that Indonesian passage:

Even if I keep studying (nothing change, nothing change)
Even if I keep working hard (nothing change, nothing change)
Japan will never change (nothing change, nothing change)
Just give those hard work to great people
DeepL translates the Kanji passage as:

No matter how hard I study (will never change, will never change)
Even if you take your job seriously...
Japan won't change.
Let's ask the great ones to do their best.
While Google Translate said this:

No matter how much I study (it won't change, it won't change)
Even if I take my work seriously (it won't change, it won't change)
Japan won't change (it won't change, it won't change)
Let's ask great people to do their best.

The last sentence is pretty tame. It's just saying to leave the rat race to smart and "capable" people, which is not us. We are on our own pace. We won't be winning if we go with the usual route.

Yes, the JKT48 song actually said the same thing. However, JKT48 elevates the lyric to another level by condemning the status quo happening in the country. This is, my friend, a true Punk song.

The Cat Verse

Another verse that I want to know is also the cat verse. This is very jumbled:

Si kucing yang di sana cuma tidur sambil mengulat
Di hari yang membosankan pun
Yang penting sekarang harus berulah
Ya ayo mulai!

My English translation of that Indonesian verse:

The Cat over there that only sleeping
In a boring day
The most important thing now needs to act
Yes, let's start!

What is this? Why suddenly talk about cat? What's the real intention here? Wait, why is my English translation makes more sense than the Indonesian wording? Lol...

NMB48 lyric at that part was saying:

日向の猫が
欠伸(あくび)をしているよ
そんな退屈な今日
とにかく騒ぐしかねえ!
さあ暴れようぜ!
Ah!

Which according to DeepL it translates as:

The cat in the sun
Is yawning in the sun.
It's such a dreary day
We've got to make some noise anyway!
Let's get rowdy!
Ah!

Oh, I see....

According to the cat experts, cat will do the yawn if the temperature is too high. The day of that high temperature is around summer where the sun may feel scorching. According to my Anime knowledge, it would be a bad day to go out.

But, still, just go out and do it!

That's the intention of the original message. I think the original JKT48 deviates the translation there. Their effort to slip boring day in addition to the cat verse is cute. However, I feel this would lose the intention about moving on at a bad day. It will give the verse impression to move on because you are bored.

Art is subjective, but if that's the direction they want to take so be it. However, my personal take on that verse should be:

Walau kucing di luar sana cuma sanggup menguap
Karena hari yang membara
Tetap lakukan sekarang
Ya, ayo mulai!

My limited English translation:

Even if the cat out there can only yawning
Because of the scorching day
We've got to do it now
Yes, let's start!

At least that's what I think the intention of the original song by NMB48. Well, I only think the verse while I'm writing this, so probably there are lots of things that goes into the translation.

Anyway, this is also what makes JKT48 songs not really booming in Indonesia. The lyrics are not that well written. In Light Novel world analogy, their song is a bit like machine translation.

Look at the song "River", what does this mean?

Penghalang adalah River! River! River!

In my own English translation:

Obstacle is River! River! River!
Does that make sense to you?

Oh, if I try to think long enough, it does! But I need some effort there to look at the bigger picture. I need time to understand.

The lyric is in two languages, which is not common in Indonesia at the time. It is common now, so probably if they sing it now it would be acceptable.

However, the most obvious of their flaw in the lyric is that their lyric is not organic enough. Let's take a look at the lyric of "Fortune Cookie yang mencinta":

Yang mencinta Fortune Cookie
Masa depan tidak akan seburuk itu

In Bahasa Indonesia, you don't say "yang mencinta", if you want to go to that route, you say "yang mencintai". It should be with prefix "men-" + "cinta" + suffix "i".

Another way around is to remove all of the suffix/prefix and goes with just "cinta". It would go as:

Yang cinta Fortune Cookie
Masa depan tidak akan seburuk itu

My preference is to go to another alternative using "Hei, pencinta" which would turn the lyric to:

Hei, pencinta Fortune Cookie!
Masa depan tidak akan seburuk itu

Oh, God, I think I got so much influence from the Bible style. Lol, at least I'm using "hei" instead of "hai". Anyway, I think you get what I mean. JKT48 songs suffer inorganic lyric for their translation.

This is not acceptable in Indonesia if you want to go mainstream. Indonesia as a part of Malayan heritage have a strong attachment to a song lyric. No matter how bad or generic the music, a song can go booming out because of the lyric, especially the relatable one.

That's why the only breakable JKT48 song is Heavy Rotation and Rhapsody. The first one is a well-translated song from their first appearance. The second one is an original JKT48 song created by a famous Indonesian song writer. The second one has more stay value and still getting airplay thanks to the original songwriter sing it with his band.

I can understand now why some fans (Wota) want JKT48 produce original song. They are more likely to boom than just a translation song. However, think of it this way: they need to consider the lore and circumstances in other branches.

Anyway, some say that Wota culture also makes JKT48 a bad rap. I think the fall of JKT48 is because Japanese songs in general are being beaten black and blue by the South Korean K-Pop. Well, it's their fault for applying that Copyright law.

Ahem... the Japanese copyright law is a topic for another day. Let's talk about the music.

The Music

I want to comment that JKT48v has the best music from the original NMB48 and JKT48. The vocal reverbs in steroid just like the original Punk bands! Personally, when I listened JKT48v's "Punkish", my mind went to Ramones, Sex Pistols, early days of Green Day and the likes!

As expected, BPK Sutirto! Your mixing is on point for the song they want to convey. It would feel weird from current generation viewers. But, not for the Oom-Oom (uncles) generation who have the money to donate! Lol....

You think why music industry spits songs with nostalgic melody? Yes, because it is a given formula that was successful in the past. It is ingrained in our DNA as an acceptable song. No industrialist EDM song will make that Billboard 100 for now.

Anyway,

JKT48v song is very on point using that kind of mixing for the "Punkish" song. It would let me experience again Punk song from the past. I hope they survive and can do more in the future. I know this is not a true Punk, but a Punkish Punk. They are an Idol group, but willing to change.

About JKT48 Struggles

One thing I really appreciate from JKT48 team and management is that they are not giving up. For the new song which one year ago released:

They are going out from their shell! This single "Flying High", listening this song, I immediately searched for the artists behind the song.

Why?

Because this is a Top 100 Billboard song, not really a J-Pop. No Royal Road progression, but a K-Pop progression, with current EDM chant.

Well, I see the producers are really worldwide! Matt Rad and August Rigo. Both have international creds on their shoulders.

So, for them to get out and produced a not-Japanese song is a struggle that they are willing to take to change (for better). And I really, really salute them for that. Having 10 years of existence is something we need to reckon with.

Now I understand why they also take the Virtual Avatar (VTuber) route! It's the fastest growing market in the world today. People are going for this, even a browser.

As the boundary between reality and illusion is getting blurred, we are currently accepting new concept of reality: Hyperreality.

Oh, no! I'll stop here and if you want to know more about Hyperreality, just read Jean Baudrillard's Simulacra and Simulation.
jpmrbloodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15536898414897248544noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11960037.post-68419417848080213422023-09-05T23:53:00.002+07:002023-09-05T23:53:54.563+07:00What Heart can Do

A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.

-- Proverbs 17:22, NIV

My father's health is deteriorating after his 70th birthday. I think he's thinking of passing away. His thought is being influence by the Psalm 90:10, NIV:

Our days may come to seventy years,or eighty, if our strength endures;

yet the best of them are but trouble and sorrow, for they quickly pass, and we fly away.

This dark feeling of Psalmist seems thinking that a man life is only for 70 years or up to 80 years. So, a man more than 70 should be an empty shell.

I think this is a contradictory! God never said that. He only limits human to 100 years. Is there something wrong with this text?

So, I tried to see what the essay said about this text.

According to essay by Pinker, the passage might get mistranslated slightly. According to his analysis, it should be interpreted as such:

The years in which we have strength are about seventy (or, when particularly mighty they are eighty). That which one is proud of, is in retrospect only vexation and sorrow. We quickly fade, lose our senses, and make the death rattle ...

It is a retrospective passage about how the Psalmist felt about himself. It is a metaphor for his condition. That's why in the following he asked the wisdom to count his days. So that he was prepared.

It shouldn't be about life expectancy. Various biblical text showed people live more than 80 years. So, don't think about giving up life after 70!

After thinking about it, I don't think Psalm 90:10 is the main cause for my father's waning will. His reason probably because he's lonely.

His true friend and brother was sent to heaven by C-virus. My uncle is his peer and the one he can look up to. His position in church as Elder and Founder making it difficult for him to make connections with another person.

It is not that he don't want to get close with others. People see him up high in pedestal making them feels awkward to get close.

His health also making his time to socialize limited. He need to rest after 4PM. He can't handle the cold of a tropical country. That's why he also can't comeback to his birthplace. Toba lake is too cold for him.

I think his deteriorating health is ridiculous. Only couple of weeks and he has lost weight. The problem is absolutely on his mind.

Why can't he think like Apostle Paul? Life is for Christ and death is my gain?

Oh, well. What a powerful thing this thought can be!
jpmrbloodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15536898414897248544noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11960037.post-29380257226807905822023-03-04T10:10:00.001+07:002023-03-04T10:10:59.486+07:00A Witch Hunt Gone Wrong

pikamee... pic.twitter.com/NIBfx59D1x
— Banned Vtuber Memes (@bannedvtmemes) February 21, 2023

Pikamee, a vtuber was deciding to stop her character for vtubing in 31st March. Her last stream was playing Hogwarts Legacy. This game was gaining notoriety because the J.K. Rowling, a creator of Harry Potter, was making a transphobic statement. Because of this statement, many twittards witch hunting many content creators who playing Hogwarts Legacy.

Pikamee and her company said that the graduation was planned. She had taken a one-month break before making the decision. However, this graduation made her fans enraged.

Her fans understand that she was a bullying victim in the past when she was still a child in school. They don't believe that statement, instead they know this is because of the witch hunt.

Some of the fans fight back. The whole trans community is now being accused of a bully who don't want to get bullied back. A bully who thinks oneself as a victim.

*Sigh*

I love Jesus and I believe He is the salvation for everyone. My friend, Hassan, believe that Muhammad PBUH is the Prophet sent by Allah for bringing order. My other friend, Jericko Lim, believe in Kwan Im as the Goddess.

We have contradictions on faith. That's okay! Our beliefs are different. It won't stop us to communicate, even if we are infidels to each.

I feel that LGBTQ+ is a new modern religion. They are still new and still growing in size and understanding. I hope they can grow like other religion to accept differences in faith.

However!

Access to public facilities, privileges as a citizen, and any human right should be the same. Your privileges should not because of your faith.

I still believe that a person should be a person biologically born with. That's what the Bible said that I believe. Still, I interact with them like I interact with other people. Nothing is different, except if they are jerks.

I am a flawed human. There is a bottom line when I can't tolerate jerks. I tend to avoid them, regardless of their faith. I know Jesus taught us to forgive, but I'm still learning to do so. No, I don't think this is right, but I'm just telling that I still struggle with that.

LGBTQ+ is a new modern religion. Like Christianity, they also contain many communities and sub-beliefs. So, like Christianity and Islam, I think we need to separate them and not take the whole community.

Why I believe this?

I remember my friend was talking with his Gay friend. His friend behavior is so elegant. He spoke his mind and respected straight person. He didn't flaunt his gayness.

However, there are also different Gay people who talked with each other and glorifying their behavior. They love to approach Junior high persons and try to convert them to be a Gay person. They love to talk with provanity.

Two different spectrums. They are part LGBTQ+ community, but they are not the same. Just like Christianity. There are communities that respect other religions, but there are also communities that want separation from other infidels.

These people who witch hunt people that playing a magical school game because the original creator for the franchise saying some homophobic statement, these people is a part of LGBTQ+ community, but they are not the whole LGBTQ+ community itself.

That Magical School is only a franchise, not even created by that original creator. It was developed by hundreds of developers. People who are the fans of the lore.

I don't understand why a franchise that has not reflecting the recent transphobic comment from its original franchise creator get slammed a lot. The original Harry Potter even telling the story of marginalized people. Its idea is far from transphobic.

When the first Pentecostal church emerged 100 years a go, the founder complained that some of its member doing witchcraft which is not what the Holy Spirit intended. A just cause getting popular will have the tendency to get hijacked.

These SJW that made accusation to Pikamee. Are they all LGBTQ+ persons? What if some of them just haters that love to see the world burns.

It's hard to separate them without further analysis. Gandhi can denied people who was rioting distancing his struggle from struggle because they were all real people and real events. People could judged clearly who was who. However, in a world of cyber, how can you distinguish people with alter accounts?

LGBTQ+ community needs to step up their game. They need to do things respectfully and stop targeting random people. At least, make a statement to help person like Pikamee that got bullied. This is important to make other people understand that those are not the whole community stand.

I don't see such statement, just a silence. It leads to some enraged communities thinking that the whole LGBTQ+ community approve of the harassment.

I'm not a LGBTQ+ person nor a fans of the movement. I don't even know Pikamee. But, this fiasco really makes the world filled with hate. It's concerning. We don't need another hate.
jpmrbloodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15536898414897248544noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11960037.post-75626449908833730722023-01-27T11:24:00.002+07:002023-01-27T11:24:41.958+07:00Songs Sung by VTuber that I Like to Listen
I, like other Indonesian normies who fallen to the rabbit hole, was brought to the scenes by Kobo Kanaeru. That's why my song selection below is mostly for Hololive and Indonesian. I haven't falling deep enough.

The list is not charting or something, just something that remember.

#1 Cynical Night Plan - Pavolia Reine and Tokoyomi Towa

This song was engineered by Redshift. Redshift have built portfolio since the Vocaloid era. In VTuber era, it seems they becomes the go to for Reine's songs.

By default, I prefer natural vocal. However, the stylized vocal by Towa and Reine engineered by Redshift really doing well with my ears. It creates amazing sound experience for me.

What I like from Redshift is that the space is enough in every EDM music they made. This really makes me who not really into EDM can listen this song without tiring my ears.

I like Towa deep voice, not gonna lie. Reine did a good service for her teammate to give the best part for Towa. Reine herself also did a good job compliment the voice. What a good host.

#2 Again - Moona Hoshinova

This song was mixed by Moona herself. You can hear her cracking voice here and there. You can hear the indie default guitar strum, the keyboard, and the studio drum. Oh, the bass is a bit subdued. The overall song is at a demo level quality.

However!

The imperfections really sold me. As a whole they made the song wholesomely innocence. I won't take it another way.

If it's on another song, I would like to have her retake her vocal. May be told her to lower the key half step. But, no, her nervous vocal really addicting in this song.

You can feel the feeling across this song!

#3 Baddest - Calli, Moona, Reine, Risu

This is what a cover should be! They made artistic choices here and there makes the cover unique. Like when Calli whisper, "all the eyes on me" which differ from the original. I really like that part btw. It creates a smooth hook to the Korean hook.

Of course, the OG version is more layered and fuller if you listened to the mashup. I blame this to the difference in production cost. I found out that Hololive talent need to open their own pocket for each song they cover aside from Hololive. As this is coming from Moona, the production is really great.

#4 Saikai - Moona and Suisei

The Hoshi-duo are amazing. The vocals are really good! No other comment.

It's interesting that Suisei making an artistic choice to clone Uru's voice. Usually artist would make their own take. The end is justified, but I wish Suisei can make her own spin on the voice because she is an aspiring artist.

I'm not complaining, though. The end result is amazing.

#5 Roki - Andi Adinata and Mia Canasya

The best Roki cover, ever!

You can hear AZKi, Eve, Shien, and other bunch vtubers covering the song. I can defend that this is the best version ever.

Eve x Sou version may be the best contender. The singing also a little bit flat for a Rock&Roll song. They are also losing in the first "aw" part. For a rebellious song, that part is important. At least, the producer MikitoP made it an important monument for the song.

#6 Pretender - Andi Adinata

His singing is amazing in this. I don't even bothered by the MIDI-ish music.

#7 Happy - Kobo Kanaeru

I like the realistic drum. The song has so many spaces which is rare nowadays. I feel like a genuine Swing band playing at the club. There, Kobo hallowed with spotlight singing the song.

#8 Love Me Love Me - Pavolia Reine (1981 VHSRip remix)

It's an original song by Pavolia Reine. There is nothing wrong with the original arrangement. It's a good arrangement. However, the remix by Adhesion takes it to another level.

I think the original reverb voice by Reine is really 80's. That's why to me, the take for making lo-fi 80's Synthwave music resonated with me more. There are qualities coming from the ClownC0re dissonance style and the distorted whispers of adlibs "love me love me". It elevates the spookiness of the song.

#9 Aishite Aishite Aishite - Vestia Zeta

I know Izuru makes an excellent rendition of the song also. But, Zeta really makes me think of that adopted child.

Both Izuru and Zeta makes great cover. However, go watch Orphan and replace the OST with this one. She was the first Vtuber featured on a "normal" music channel. I don't know about First Take, thought.

The First Take is apparently a music channel respected by the Japanese music industry. According to its description, artist featured on the music channel will be singing live without filter. It seems this is similar to the respectable NPR's Tiny Desk Concert. A raw, unadulterated, performance.

Some people find it weird with an anime character singing without showing the real artist face. I don't think this is weird.

Do you remember Gorillaz?

They did it back then. As a virtual band, they already in the music scene with their own avatar. That's why, I don't think the artist goes by an anime avatar known as Hoshimachi Suisei is weird. I mean art is weird, so be it! There is nothing wrong with going through the vtubing route.

Regarding the performance, I do like it. If I need to nitpick, I wish they don't do the string play. However, that's just a little nitpick from a purist live performance.

I mean, I already accept that bands nowadays play with additional recorded instrument in live performance. It's understandable that these bands especially the progressive metal bands like Epica don't have the budget to have live orchestra to back their songs. The song would be uncomplete without them, probably.

Anyway, it's a good performance by her and the band. From the information I gathered, the guitarist is the composer of the song and the keyboardist is his band mate. That's why they have the perfect timing. "Stellar Stellar" is their own original song.

jpmrbloodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15536898414897248544noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11960037.post-47198297670555392612023-01-11T17:53:00.002+07:002023-01-11T17:53:12.114+07:00Review: 【Original Song】愛の小さな歌 || Ai no Chiisana Uta - Moona Hoshinova

This ballad song is the song about Moona thanking her fans. It takes minimalistic approach using piano and digital strings.

I like the lyrics and the emotion in the singing. The chord progression also helps to convey the emotions throughout the song. It's a nice ballad.

However, it has fatal flaw on how the String and the keyboard layered together. On parts like the chorus and the climax, they have erroneous sounding. Like listening to two songs with different keys at the same time.

Studi Suara called this as dissonance. He tactfully said may be this is part of the song. Well, he probably afraid being attacked by mindless fans. It really not sounds well to me as well.

Based on my listening, I think the problem lies in the sustaining sound of the keyboard. It clashed with the String and the next key. The keyboardist played as if only he/her/them that will fill the song.

I tried to find covers as comparison and found djalto cover have it better. She made the first section with keyboard only and layered them with backing vocal adlibs. At the last part, keyboard and the string left some space for their counterparts. This making the sound more enjoyable to me.

I think I can give an example of the similar song to explain better.

This song style reminds me of Nero's Glow song. However, Nero approach for it is to make the strings staccato while Moona's makes every instrument played in sustain.

Also, listen to the Nero bass. The sustaining sound in lower frequency and it is subdued. Moona's sustaining sound in lower to mid-range persists a few beats.

By the end of the day, I agree with Studi Suara to restructure the chords. Additionally, they need to make the melody sparser. It's too crowded.

The current strong structure is not for my ears. The way it is presented is too noisy like two different songs collided. That's how I feel when listening, may be others find it acceptable.

jpmrbloodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15536898414897248544noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11960037.post-73867001051241673162023-01-10T19:43:00.005+07:002023-01-10T19:43:55.887+07:00Overly Produced Voice

Rick Beato made a point that the use autotune and overly produced voice perfect will enable AI to produce songs that general public will not bother to care. The result of overly produced voice is that the singing becomes robotic and lost all of the nuances. Computer in the long term will be able to create that voice.

The great question from AI produced songs will be the author of the songs. I can already imagine this will be belong to the record company. Oh, wow, 100% pure industrialized songs.

Rick point this overly produced voice are the works of autotune. The use of autotune from Cher's '98 Believe song and now 2023 commonly used on all songs. People nowadays search for perfection on production.

There are two things that made me think why the use of autotune a common way to produce music. The first thing I can think of is the death of CD and the rise of digital stream. The second is music nowadays is used for background.

Let me talk about the first. CD is the last digital media that contains high quality voice. The bitrate of CD is 1,411 kbps. High quality streaming media mostly use 200 ~ 320 variable bitrates (means it can have lower bitrate depending on parts of the song). As you can see, the quality differs.

But, yes, people don't care anymore. People don't come to a concert to listen to see Bach and his crew playing classics for two hours. People nowadays use their Bluetooth in-ear audio pretending to do work out. They just do music for accompanying their activities.

Only people from the past who have tasted the sonic nuance know what's the different.

I'm not trying to be elitist here. Newer generations never have the chance to listen to good audio. They are getting used to over-compressed songs. That's why they will not get what's the different between yesterday and today's music.

What's the different?

You won't find Alanis Morissette today. You can say goodbye to Cyndi Lauper. Everything is robotic nowadays.

You can still find good music from Indies, still. A little bit more effort, but they are diminishing. I say this because some Indie musicians also tuned their voices nowadays. It's just a style of current music.

How about me?

I'm trained listening world music. My ears are used to the imperfection in many ethnic songs. I love microtonal. I love playing with weird progression and singing.

That's why I don't listen to music intensely anymore. They are designed to have expiration so that new music can be sold. However, listening to the same beat really dull my heart and passion in music.

Well, actually I'm listening to NPR Tiny Desk now. I also like Stromae and Steam Powered Giraffe. For Indonesian, I love to listen to Basboi - Bismillah.

Yes, Steam Powered Giraffe has a trans. Basboi is a Moslem. However, I don't judge the songs based on my faith. Good song is good song. I can accept as long as they are not trying to push their agenda.

I believe in Christ, but this world is not. My job is to show what Christ would do. Heart depends on the work of Holy Spirit.

Anyway,

Steam Powered Giraffe reminding me of I DONT KNOW HOW BUT THEY FOUND ME band. The vibe, I mean. SPG has its own solid voice, I know.

I used to like Japanese music. Their math rock progression is awesome in my opinion. However, they repeatedly use the same progression and sound making me bored. Also, their song is getting louder and tight. It seems my hearing could not cope with that type anymore.

Before COVID, I usually asked for my friend that goes to Japan to buy a Perfume CD. Their music is still acceptable to my ears. I also like Mitchie M and kz-livetune music for Vocaloid producers. I'm having a hard time listening to Giga and newer Vocaloid producer.

My last find for Japanese music is Frederic's Oddloop. Oh, wow, they have a new song. Gonna listen to them now.

For VTuber, I really like the Kobo's rendition of Happy. The song is having real instruments and enough space to make the ears enjoying the experience. I also like the songs arranged by Farhan Sarasin and Redshift.

Especially with Redshift, I really love how the music is having enough space so that my ears will not bleed. I can put Reine and Towa's rendition of Cynical Night Plan on repeat play. Look at the drums, they are not that loud but perfect for my ear. I can accept stylized voices just as long as my ears not bleeding from the whole song, and it perfectly blend into the song. I can see human voice as instrument.

Yeah, the obscures really fill my need for good songs. Just wait for the music cycle to get into the right sonic. Until then, into the obscures....
jpmrbloodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15536898414897248544noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11960037.post-6924440891206072942023-01-04T08:45:00.000+07:002023-01-04T08:45:55.391+07:002023
A new year. Indonesian president already stopped the Community Activities Restrictions Enforcement (CARE), or PPKM in Bahasa Indonesia, since 31 December 2022. We are now no longer in the era of restricted activity.

Well, the implication should be more than that. I mean, CARE comes with the obligation for Indonesian government to support all COVID-19 patient. So, now the government should no longer have obligation to fund all COVID-19 patients?

And,

is there anything interesting for 2023?

I guess happy new year.
jpmrbloodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15536898414897248544noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11960037.post-85681341401018257082023-01-03T21:30:00.009+07:002023-01-09T15:25:45.873+07:00#My2C for Iofi - Kagome [Cover]

I tried to search for video reaction in YouTube for this song. I can only find a reaction from Studi Suara. He brings the technicality for the voice acting in this song. He talks about Legato and legit stuff about singing. Well, here my two cents about this song.

This is a raw song! Get it? A raw song!

First, I agree with Studi Suara that the song should have a higher note. The song originally was sung by a man, so I think it should be wise to have it a little bit higher note.

A higher note can force her to let that raw emotion out. At least if I was the producer/sound director(?), I'll ask her to try higher note.

Second, for a song with raw emotion as a theme, I also agree this song is too flat. However, instead of vocal aspect, I think I can say that the production itself is the problem.

I don't know why current music production trend is so full. This made even singer voices getting compressed. Not much space is given for micro-legato or any imperfection. You won't find Cindy Lauper's type of singing. Everything is so on-note.

As a result, vocal is getting compressed a lot!

However, again, however:

This is a raw song! Get it? A raw song!

You should've tuned that tuner down. Let the imperfection, the cracking in the voice included in the production.

If I can say the perfect production level to this kind of song should be that NPR's Tiny Desk Concert level of production. Of course, that is too raw for current trend. You can compress it a little bit, but don't let the imperfections begone. Those made the emotions for raw song.

Yeah, as I said, Iofi type of voice reminds me of Cindy Lauper. She can have her own color and sing with her own voice swing. Just be yourself, I mean the persona you projected through the character named Airani Iofifteen. Oh, come on, I don't want Baudrillard stuff here. Lol.

Gah, I don't remember any technical terms for this. I haven't touched a keyboard nor any musical instrument since 2019. I can't even play guitar well anymore.

Well, for a song freely available to listen to, I'm complaining too much. This is because I think such a waste of opportunity that the song failed to capture Iofi's raw emotion. I sympathized her here. She did a great job showcasing the world for enabling hand sign in 3D technology.

Pushing VR technology to include accessibility is awesome. Kudos for her. I even didn't think about that.

EDIT:

On repeat listening, I can capture the raw feelings after first verse. The song grew on me. I think the one that spoiled my listening is the beginning of the song. It really turned me off.

My opinion still stands. She really needs to take higher note and may be sing the song at the beginning like Cindy Lauper.

jpmrbloodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15536898414897248544noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11960037.post-58326080621848272302022-11-09T23:30:00.002+07:002022-11-09T23:32:57.141+07:00Ode To

Hi, Bro.

I started playing this again. However, the partner seemed getting jealous and poked his thing deep while the wife was on the phone, ready to close the call.

Just a split second, her husband heard her.

Why not getting divorced?

Seems to a man, the trophy of getting a beautiful and sexy wife secured his pride.

Can I say that was a pride that holding them down?

I mean, he obviously disgusted by her. He even lost his passion over her. Like Amnon to Tamar.

Well, she didn't know about him also having the affairs with other people. She just felt guilty to have cheated her husband.

Come to think again. It's so sad to be a woman in this patriarchy world. When they do it, they are being accused and degenerated lowest.

A man did it, they called it an adventure. A woman did it and she was a whore?

Ah, I just remember this sad story:

A lovely girl being raped by her uncle. Her mother and her family suppressed the story and blamed her. They forced her to take it and shushed her.

WTF!

As a father to lovely daughters, the scene revealing a mother with Münchausen syndrome by proxy really made me cry. This is more mortifying for me than when the ghost girl showed up inside the tent. Those eyes really devastating. I felt that when he choked out watching his wife put the poison.

Daughters are meant to be loved!

I didn't care about the riches of the world when I was young. I dedicated my 12 years of my golden life for Free/Open Source movement. Never was I getting paid even we have commercial CD sales.

I don't mind.

But now! Now God entrusted me with lives. They are dependent on me. Their well-being is my comfort.

I used to see computers and bike parts for my hobby. I took all day long in Harco Mangga Dua (a place in Jakarta to buy PC parts). Now I found out that I'm most interested in Ace Hardware seeking home appliances. I love to see different kind of wok and comparing what's best for frying.

I have spent my coins in Mothersbee buying those jumpsuits. Other than coffee, I don't find anything else interesting anymore.

That's why, I can't stand with that scene. All you fathers would agree with me, right? It's a horror.

He was still standing there and talked. I would have taken my hand and hit that twisted mother hard. VERY HARD!

I hope my daughters live their lives to the fullest and with happy smile. I hope them to have a bright future.

Dang! I was trying to write something else. Let me stop here. I don't even care about the title.

jpmrbloodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15536898414897248544noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11960037.post-40858141301202477392022-11-01T00:50:00.007+07:002022-11-01T18:12:45.341+07:00VTuber

Generated from https://creator.nightcafe.studio/creation/2KR1yHqvqHwxXSo3kTbA

Currently I'm amazed by a trend to make a podcast with an anime-styled avatar. The phenomenon referred as VTuber is using a 2.5D style. The avatar is 3D glued on 2D background.

Their content usually around singing, playing games, and chat with their viewers. As they do that live, they would connect to live payment method that will display something when people donate.

In Indonesia, this culture is called "sawer". A culture that would tip the performer live. That's why, for Indonesian, this Japanese imported scene is not really alien.

After I dig deeper, I found out that there are two types of affiliation. The first is a company setup that is called Vtuber Agency. The example of such agency is Maha5 and Hololive. And, to my surprise, there is also the guerilla type that called themselves independent.

Personally, I'm not into these Vtubers because their design is not really original. I can find similarities from past anime characters. However, I won't discount the talents behind those avatars. They are great.

Here the three that I found good so far:

Kobo Kanaeru (Hololive ID). This anime girl name is a play from Kobokan Aeru. Her persona of childish and randomness really created many mother/father normies sucked to her.

Andi Adinata (MAHA5). This person has a great voice. He covered Indonesian song and translated it to Japanese.

Mythia Batford #scuffgant. This lady is proclaimed as an independent (indie) vtuber. Probably that's the reason why she can have collaboration with other YouTubers personas.

Regarding the limitation in collaboration, I guess this is by the end of the day is a business, an entertainment business.

Ah, Senpai, you said Internet just a simulacrum. Now people are being able to have third personification on the net. Will someday humanity defined by the ego existing in the web?

jpmrbloodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15536898414897248544noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-11960037.post-45182133841115524162022-10-19T01:31:00.002+07:002022-10-19T01:31:25.022+07:00A Changing World
Debian now changing its Debian Social Contract. It includes non-free firmware starting with Debian 12 installer. The compromise is taken because modern hardware including WiFi devices are using binary blob inside their driver to enable the hardware.

General Resolution: non-free firmware (debian.org)

I have a lot to say for this, but this is part of the changing world. Nowadays people chasing pragmatism rather than idealism. No matter what my thought about this, they are the one that know what's best for them.

Such as sad stare game and the idealists are now blinking.
jpmrbloodhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15536898414897248544noreply@blogger.com0
